House Beautiful - February 2015

If you don't have a subscription to House Beautiful, run out and buy the February issue. The entire issue is wonderful, and this Chinoiserie filled apartment by Sam Allen is amazing. (David A. Land, photographer)

Color Inspiration

Jessica Buckley Interiors
I love a color palette of pink, blue, and white with Chinoiserie. Isn't this a happy space? The blue grasscloth and white Chinese Chippendale chairs are perfect.

I'm Ready for Spring

Carolyne Roehm
Here in Alexandria, Virginia, I awoke to a scant dusting of snow, but I know that many on the East coast got blasted by this winter storm. Stay safe and think of warmer days ahead.

Pink Velvet

I love a green velvet sofa, but isn't this pink a delicious alternative?

A Chinoiserie Work Nook

Southern Living
This perfect little work space could be tucked in a living room, family room, bedroom, wherever. Note the blue and white garden stool giving extra surface space, the blanc de Chine statue made into a lamp, and the wonderful color palette of blue and white with browns and beiges.

Taupe

Alexa Hampton - Architectural Digest
The walls of the hallway are painted in a favorite paint color of mine - Benjamin Moore HC - 77 Alexandria Beige. Not only is this a great taupe, but I have lived in Alexandria, Virginia for about 30 years. Notice the pop of color the pair of blue and white ginger jars gives against this warm taupe.

A wonderful combination using David Hick's The Vase wallpaper by Clarence House, a zebra rug, a lacquered red chest, modern art, and blue and white Chinese porcelain.

The Blue and White Chinoiserie Wedding

The Enchanted Home
If I were planning a wedding, this would be my inspiration. The fabric is Cachepot in Hyacinth, the pagoda candles are Seda France.

I love this black accent wall entryway with my favorite color palette of blue, pink, and gold. The pair of blue pineapples is a great touch. Pineapples are showing no hint of fading in interior design in 2015.

The Chinoiserie Bathroom

de Gournay
This bathroom is the ultimate in luxury. But I suspect few of us would risk de Gournay wallpaper, wood floors, full length curtains, and an antique upholstered chair in a full bathroom.

Blue and White Escape

Miles Redd - Elle Decor
This entryway by Miles Redd has me wanting to escape this cold January weather for something blue and tropical. I love the teal blue Lee Jofa wallpaper with the antique Chinese bench, large ginger jars, turquoise garden stool, Chinese parasols, and antique Chinese console.

CR Laine
Loving the coral and green, two of my favorite colors. I am predicting that we see start seeing more yellow this year, especially in small pops as used here.

Pairing the Chinese Chippendale Chair

Jonathan Adler
For my dining room redo, I have decided to pair a round dining table with white Chinese Chippendale chairs. One idea I can't get out of my mind is a table I have loved for years, the iconic mid century modern Warren Platner table. Not sure if I will go this route or not, but I do love this table. It is available in vintage versions and authorized reproductions by Knoll as well as knockoffs.

The Blue Chinoiserie Dining Room

dmagazine.com
Such a stunning dining room with turquoise chairs and settee, striped silk taffeta tablecloth, crystal chandelier, and gorgeous Chinoiserie wallpaper. The use of a settee is a very modern element. You don't often see a settee with a round dining table and I really like this look.

This is a great example of how Chinoiserie wallpaper is a perfect backdrop for more modern and clean lined furniture and accessories. The choice of a lavender colorway is a modern but ideal choice for a bedroom.

Saturday Inspiration

Kristen Buckingham
Besides my dining room, my other big project for my home this year is the outside, including a new roof, gutters, and exterior painting. So I am knee deep in starting to focus in on all those decisions. The fun part will be incorporating some Chinoiserie outdoors. I have been thinking about a Chinese blue door. I have always had a glossy black door. This is an interesting alternative - the door stays high gloss black but the surround is painted Chinese blue. Do you like this?

Another Look at the Chinoiserie Dining Room

Traditional Home
I mentioned yesterday that my plan for my dining room redo so far includes a round dining table and white Chinese Chippendale chairs. Yesterday we looked at a dining room that used contrasting leather upholstered chairs. Today's examples use all matching white Chinese Chippendale chairs. Which do you prefer - all the same chairs or a mix?

The Chinoiserie Dining Room

Chad Hoeft Designs
I am in the idea stage right now of my upcoming dining room redo. I really love the idea of a round pedestal table since my dining room is square. I am still debating whether to use contrasting chairs with the white Chinese Chippendale chairs I will be getting. Do you like this look?

Blue and White

Carolyne Roehm
My love affair with blue and white Chinoiserie is going strong into 2015, especially with a pop or two of hot pink. This is Carolyne Roehm's Bird Room in her home in Charleston.

I have three blue and white rooms. Do you have rooms in your own home that are all blue and white?

The Chinese Chippendale Chair

This is a very modern approach to using the classic white Chinese Chippendale chair. This breakfast nook mixes black walls, a striped bench, a yellow tufted chair, a pair of black drum pendant chandeliers, blue plaid drapes, and bamboo shades.

Lilac Bedroom Walls

Miles Redd
Lilac walls have a modern feel while still maintaining that sense of spa/retreat/sanctuary that we love in a bedroom.
