Chinoiserie touches include Imari vases filled with fresh flowers and berries and pewter bamboo flatware. Tealights are a pretty alternative to candlesticks and nice and low so as to not block your view of others at the table.

I was shopping at Publix yesterday and they had the most beautiful purple mums. It brought to mind this table setting I posted several years back. I really like the blue and white with purple palette and I think this would be wonderful for setting the Thanksgiving table.

 Purple rooms are still on the rare side, and even rarer mixed with chinoiserie like in this study. Custom de Gournay peacock wallpaper mixes with modern and mid century elements like the Karl Springer mirror, acrylic sputnik chandelier, Italian stools, and chairs in Scalamandre silk check. 

Purple is a color I don't really have in my home, although I love it where it goes more lavender like it does here. I don't use a lot of red either, but I really like lavender mixed with red. My study in Alexandria was lavender with red and pink and I loved it.

This dramatic foyer features Gracie Studios wallpaper, lacquered black ceiling and door, and stunning wood floors. The purple console table is an interesting choice. Purple is pretty much the only color I don't use in my home. I love lavender, but not a dark purple personally. But this pop of purple definitely works here with the green walls.

In my book, Carolyne Roehm can do no wrong. I adore her style. It occurred to me to see whether she had ever had a beach house. Indeed, this was the living room in her former Southampton home.

I was engaged in college to a young man whose family had a summer home in Southampton and I fell in love with that area. Those were the days of Truman Capote and Jackie Rogers there. One day I was sunbathing in Southampton at a posh beach club where a friend belonged and a man came over and said I was one of the most beautiful women he had ever seen and could he do a photo shoot. He introduced himself at Federico Fellini.

I did not believe him and declined, only to see in the local rag the next day that he was in fact in town. I had not thought of that in ages.

At any rate, this living room is stunning. The walls are completely done in Delft tiles. Lots of Chinoiserie - blue and white ginger jars, a Chinese garden stool, and a pagoda chandelier.

I am not usually a fan of purple, but it looks great here. And check out the pair of palm trees. Wow!

Can a room cause vertigo? I have a physical reaction to the wallpaper on the ceiling like the room is sideways or topsy-turvy. I feel nauseous. I literally can't look at it for very long.

But I also just don't get it visually. I like a room where the entire room in papered, including the ceiling, but with the same paper on the ceiling as the walls. White walls with a dark wallpapered ceiling is beyond me. The room is top heavy. Do you feel like interior designers sometimes try to be unique and it just doesn't work?

It really annoys me, because Quadrille China Seas Lyford Trellis is a favorite Chinoiserie wallpaper of mine.

And the staging is so funny. How do you get in and out of bed - crawl in between the table and chair?

I also must say that purple is my least favorite color in the world. I do not have a single purple item in my home or wardrobe. I love a soft lavender, but not this color. I also dislike the purple trim in the corners. Gimmicky.

So I guess I hate the white walls, the papered ceiling, the trim, the staging, and the color palette. And as for the art.....

I do love the Paule Marrot piece of art, but don't get it used here at all. Not sure how those colors work in this room. It seems out in left field.

I adore Paule Marrot art. I wish I had a place for her "Feathers," but I don't. I have so much art I love and with an open floor plan and tons of windows and sliders, wall space is at a premium here.

Update - I just found this photo of the same room - I dislike the door and the curtains as well. Yikes. And the photo on top appeared on the cover of House Beautiful - June 2016.

So guys, weigh in. Love it, hate it? What works for you, what doesn't? To me, Miles has missed by a mile.

Such a gorgeous color palette - a beautiful purple with a glimpse into a stunning pink Chinoiserie bedroom. The purple is Benjamin Moore's Purple Haze. The Empire table does double duty as the dining table in this tiny NYC apartment. The entire apartment is 390 square feet. The floors are actually painted in Benjamin Moore Hale Navy and White Down.

The bedroom wallpaper is salvaged hand painted 18th century Chinoiserie wallpaper found at auction and patched together in a collage. The trundle bed is for their young daughter. I especially like the Hudson Bay blanket - an interesting choice.

My Chinoiserie dollhouse master bedroom was inspired by this bedroom - I papered the walls in paper salvaged from a de Gournay diffuser box.

A palette of orange, purple, and hot pink is a lovely choice for the Thanksgiving table. Imari vases are filled with fresh flowers and berries. I have these same salt and pepper shakers. I'll have to dig them out.

Aubergine

I love aubergine rooms. My office was aubergine until I decided to change it for a One Room Challenge and lightened the deep purple to a pale lavender.

The collection of blue and white Chinese porcelain in this Celerie Kemble room really pops against the deep walls and floor. The console and mirror are antiques. The lamps are of course Christopher Spitzmiller. The sconces are Ralph Lauren Home. The pendants are Vaughan. The fabric on the chairs is Holland & Sherry.
