The Chinoiserie Breakfast Room

Krista Ewart - House Beautiful

Yesterday I posted a fabulous bathroom using Clarence House The Vase wallpaper in orange. This breakfast room uses this iconic David Hicks wallpaper in yellow. It is paired with white Chinese Chippendale chairs and a black painted floor. This would be a sunny way to start every day.

Clarence House The Vase

Clarence House The Vase by David Hicks is an iconic Chinoiserie pattern, and has been a favorite of interior designers and myself for years. You most often see it in blue and white. A few years ago Clarence House broadened the colorways to include pastels and such, but generally muted colors that did not blow me away. I thought they had missed the mark on today's modern approach to Chinoiserie with saturated pastels.

They have now expanded their offerings to include 8 bold new wallpaper colors like this hot pink, orange, and lime green.

I am really looking forward to seeing these bright colors featured in rooms. They would be fantastic in smaller spaces like powder rooms in particular.

Etsy Find

Check out this incredible Chinoiserie faux bamboo bed I found on Etsy shown above. I think I would use it as a daybed or a sofa, painting it coral pink and using David Hicks La Florentina fabric like this daybed below I posted on long ago. But there are so many possibilities - it is twin bed size and would also be incredible in a child's bedroom or a small guest bedroom. It's located in Richmond, Virginia, just an hour and a half from me - I wish I had a spot for it. It would also be amazing lacquered in navy blue, orange, white, Chinese red, hot pink....

More Saturday Kitchen Inspiration

Kerri Geller Goldfarb
I have posted before on this wonderful kitchen above with its Clarence House David Hicks The Vase wallpaper in the yellow colorway and white roman shades with navy trim. I was delighted to find this photo of the other side of the room with the chairs and window seat in navy and white Quadrille/China Seas Macoco II in Navy on Tint.

My Favorite Chinoiserie Powder Room

This week we will continue with a look at my all time favorite rooms. My powder room pick is this wonderful blue and white space by Jennifer Dengel. This room exemplifies the beauty of blue and white Chinoiserie. It is also a great example of not being afraid of using a large scale wallpaper in a small space - the iconic The Vase by David Hicks for Clarence House and papering the ceiling for even more dramatic impact.

Charlotte Moss Caroline

I know we all love Clarence House David Hicks The Vase fabric and wallpaper. Charlotte Moss has come out with her own version of oversized vase fabric - Caroline available at Calico Corners that is gorgeous, in wonderful colors, and a fraction of the price - under $40.00 a yard! This is a winner. Now if she would only come out with this in wallpaper as well.

Saturday Inspiration - David Hicks The Vase

Another great example of one of our favorite wallpapers - Clarence House David Hicks The Vase. Not sure about those curtains stopping at the window ledge though. Maybe it has something to do with the sheep?

David Hicks and Jo Malone

Fans of the late legendary British interior designer David Hicks will love this collaboration between Jo Malone and David Hicks' son Ashley Hicks, who has reinterpreted three of his classic designs in these limited edition candles. You will recall that David Hicks was the creator of such iconic and timeless designs as The Vase and La Fiorentina. My favorite is the Lime Basil and Mandarin, a modern classic.

David Hicks The Vase by Clarence House

Apologies for not knowing the source, but isn't this a fun, modern, and eclectic use of this favorite wallpaper of ours? P.S. Thanks to Susie at Maddie's Nest for the head's up that this is the Dallas home of Marsina Stubbs featured in PaperCity Magazine.
