Living in historic homes in the D.C. area, I loved decorating with pineapples because they had such a Colonial Williamsburg vibe. It wasn't until I moved to South Florida that I was aware that they are also very much used in tropical decor.

I always use a candle snuffer to blow out a candle. Why use a candle snuffer? Candle snuffers help to prevent wax from spattering and can extend the life of a candle by preventing the wick from smoking. To use a candle snuffer, simply hold it over the candle flame until the flame is extinguished.

The pecky cypress–paneled dining room was designed around a set of early 19th-century Dufour wallpaper panels depicting Captain Cook’s voyages to the South Seas.

I love pineapples and have quite a collection at CCC. Long a symbol of welcome and hospitality, they also have a wonderful beachy island vibe, ideal for beach houses.

A favorite of mine is the wicker version by Amanda Lindroth, pictured above on this fireplace mantel. This is a great example of how to style a fireplace in the summer or at the beach.

This is such a pretty vignette - a gorgeous pair of shell mirrors, blue and white Chinese porcelain, a blush pink velvet tufted sofa, orchids, and the centerpiece - a giant faux clamshell filled with tropical fruit. BTW, lemons, limes, and oranges can be kept at room temperature for about a week, but pineapples just 2 or 3 days.

 When I hit the milestone of putting down 50 bags of mulch in the garden yesterday afternoon, I treated myself to a run to HomeGoods and found this fabulous pineapple wine cooler. (There might have been a stop to carryout a pub sub as well). 

I am a bit pineapple crazy. My laundry hamper is even a pineapple! Have you noticed that pineapples work with virtually any decorating style whether chinoiserie, tropical, coastal, southern, colonial, or traditional? A sign of welcome and hospitality, pineapples are especially nice for holiday decorating. Do you use pineapple decor in your home?
