I thought I would share a little progress report on CCC II. I have been furnishing my rattan mini beach house with all my favorite things - chinoiserie, palm trees, blue and white, stripes, seashells, wicker, Chinese garden stools, banana leaf, and needlepoint. I would like to live here!

It is still a work in progress - next project is artwork. Here are some peeks at the rooms.

Citrus Prints & Chinoiserie

Citrus prints are everywhere - in home decor and in fashion. This is a wonderful example of how well they play with chinoiserie. Here the very classic Schumacher Citrus Garden is joined with chinoiserie touches like a pair of Chinese garden stools and a vintage ceramic elephant loaded with lemons. Darling ideas for al fresco dining or setting the summer table. 

Nautical Chinoiserie

My front entrance was just painted concrete when I bought the house and did not make me happy. I love blue and white, love patterned tile, and love a nautical vibe. These star tiles checked all the boxes. I have styled the entrance with a pair of vintage blue and white Chinese garden stools, a large hurricane, and a handmade reclaimed lobster rope doormat available from a wonderful local Florida business - 30 Fathom Doormats.

Garden Stools

 I'm not sure what this space is or how it's used with its intriguing furniture arrangement. But I am taken by the exuberant use of rattan, the pops of coral, and FOUR Chinese garden stools. The table is topped with beachy staples - books, seashells, and hurricanes. 

I was thinking just yesterday as I cut palm fronds and monstera leaves from the garden, how I am saving a small fortune not buying fresh flowers from Trader Joe's weekly as I did in DC. And the cut philodendron and monstera leaves last 3 or 4 months! I think I would lose that small circular rug though or go bigger. There are also ten pairs in this space - lots of symmetry!

Small Space Decorating with Chinoiserie

This is a lovely example of a small living room loaded with style. Neutral upholstery, a soft pastel color palette, and a lucite coffee table expand the space visually. Pale lavender (my color of 2014) grasscloth walls, a pair of Chinese garden stools (that also provide extra seating), and a Greek key pillow add Chinoiserie Chic style.

The Pink Chinoiserie Desk

I mentioned in my post on Thursday that when I redo my office, I am thinking about painting my Chinese Chippendale desk pink like Julia's (from Pawleys Island Posh) wonderful coral pink desk in her One Room Challenge. I originally got the idea of a pink desk from this Mary McDonald office above.

Mary McDonald says that she brazenly painted the Chinese desk hot pink and gave it a European style studded linen velvet upholstered top. The room also includes aqua Chinese garden stools and antique turquoise Chinese lamps, as well as lots of Chinese porcelain pieces and foo dogs on the desk. l love the pink and chocolate brown color combination with pops of blue.

It is supposed to get to 100 degrees in DC today and I have an outdoor concert - Diana Krall - tonight at Wolf Trap. I think I would rather be on this lovely patio by Philadelphia interior designer Leslie Hayes. I adore the color scheme of blue and white with punches of orange and those fabulous vintage Greek key patio chairs. The cocktail table is pure genius - three blue and white Chinese garden stools topped with glass. This would also work indoors and might also be great with two garden stools and a rectangular piece of glass. I think I would ditch that Liberace candelabra, the ugly potted plant and that crab - this is probably on the Main Line, not the beach, but the rest of it is wonderful.

Setting the Chinoiserie Table - Mini Blue and White Chinese Garden Stools

I have each of these in my own home and every time they show up in a post of my home I get questions about where to find them. My friends Tweaked Home and Duchess Fare have them in their Etsy shops. The one above is 6" tall and can be found at Tweaked Home here. The one below is 5 3/4" tall and is lidded so it can hold a candle if you wish. It is available at Duchess Fare here. When not being used to adorn your Chinoiserie dining table, they would be wonderful on a coffee table, dresser, or anywhere. Both are great vintage finds.
