I "borrowed' a few of the more formal pieces from my rattan mini beach house for my formal Georgian mini CCC dollhouse. I felt guilty that the beach house was looking a little sad and did a little refresh over the weekend.

The thing I fell in love with first about Florida was its palm trees. I love them and am fortunate to have many in my garden. I also really enjoy decorating with palm trees indoors - I have a 10 foot palm tree inside as well as other palm tree decor.

Many of us have small, senior, or pets with delicate backs who we don't want jumping on and off of beds or furniture. Pet steps are great for this purpose, but many ramps and stairs are way too ugly for my home. I have found safe, good looking, and affordable pet stairs. I ordered this one in ivory and to me it looks like it could be from somewhere like Serena & Lily. It looks like it is slipcovered in white cotton duck or canvas like many beach house sofas are.

This chic doormat is from the new Studio McGee collection for Spring for Target I posted on yesterday. Finding a great doormat is difficult and finding an elegant one for a beach house seems even more challenging. Most are kitschy and tacky.

Isn't this fun? A seahorse coffee table - this would be perfect for a beach house. Although they call it an outdoor coffee table, it has to be protected from direct sun and rain - so by outdoor they mean a porch or lanai or loggia. It is so whimsical and fantastical, I would be tempted if I did not already have a similar one in my study.

Christmas wreaths in Florida and other tropical climates are a challenge where high temperatures mean that fresh wreaths will dry out immediately. I have found some that would be perfect for the beach house and can even be used year round.

This grand room in a home in the Caribbbean's Mustique combines classic and beachy elements. On a wall of the great room hangs two engravings of Trajan’s Column by Piranesi. A pair of 19th-century museum models of whales, flanked by antique cachepots filled with coral, rest on an 18th-century English side table. The silver bowl is from Christie’s.

In Amanda Lindroth's home in Lyford Cay in the Bahamas, much of the furniture, wicker, and shutters are painted a beautiful green. 

The color is inspired by British theater and set designer Oliver Messel, who renovated many homes in Barbados and Mustique that prominently featured a similar color. In many parts of the Caribbean, "Messel green" is a household term for the color.

My newest addition to my mini rattan beach house is this pair of Chinese panels. The panels are over 100 year old antique Chinese embroidered silk. They feature beautiful exotic climbing tropical plants and even a palm tree. I made them from remnants from an antique kimono.

The wool needlepoint rug is vintage from an estate. It is circa 1981 and dated and signed by the creator.

I thought I would share a little progress report on CCC II. I have been furnishing my rattan mini beach house with all my favorite things - chinoiserie, palm trees, blue and white, stripes, seashells, wicker, Chinese garden stools, banana leaf, and needlepoint. I would like to live here!

It is still a work in progress - next project is artwork. Here are some peeks at the rooms.

So, I just bought a new beach house! Some of you may recall the dollhouse challenge I participated in several years ago. I had so much fun doing it, I decided to do a beach dollhouse. 

Above is the rattan dollhouse I have ordered. I am envisioning a Florida/Serena & Lily look with lots of blue and white, rattan, wicker, palm trees, and of course chinoiserie.

Veranda has named seashells and sea life as one of the top decorating trends for Spring 2023. Sounds great to me, as since moving to Florida I can't get enough of this look.

A gorgeous balance of moiré, embroidery and beadwork, de Gournay's Amami Waves wallcovering (pictured above) is a feat of handcrafted beauty. Sea life has never been so enticing as with this delicately colored underwater wonderland, which was inspired by Japanese kimonos and the designs of Edo period artist Ito Jakuchu.

Island Palm Wallpaper

This is such a great wallpaper combining two of my favorite things - palm fronds and blue and white. I have these same real palm fronds in my great room at all times, courtesy of the many palm trees in my garden.

Styling the Wicker Pineapple

I love pineapples and have quite a collection at CCC. Long a symbol of welcome and hospitality, they also have a wonderful beachy island vibe, ideal for beach houses.

A favorite of mine is the wicker version by Amanda Lindroth, pictured above on this fireplace mantel. This is a great example of how to style a fireplace in the summer or at the beach.

Surfer Girl

So, I bought myself a surfboard, but no, I won't be taking up surfing. Surfboard wall art is getting quite popular. I thought I was so unique when I got mine about 6 months ago, but now they are popping up. They come ready to hang either vertically or horizontally, but I much prefer it leaning against a wall. I think they are chic and great for a beach house. A beach house is a perfect opportunity to relax and have fun with decorating.
