More Pink with Sophistication

Amanda Lindroth

I posted yesterday a stunning and very sophisticated pink dining room by Amanda Lindroth. The entryway above is from the same home. I love skirted tables, but you rarely see a skirted console table. This pink and white ikat one is wonderful. And pink combines so beautifully with blue and white Chinese porcelain.

Lavender

Stubbs and Wootton x Lycette Monogram Slippers

I am not a purple fan at all, but I love a soft orchid or lavender. That was the color of my study in NOVA.

Palm Beach & Palms

Ellen Kavanaugh Interiors - Flower Magazine

On Saturday I had my more than a dozen palm trees pruned  - cleaned up would be a more apt description - seed pods, dead fronds, and the like and the garden is very happy. This Palm Beach entryway combines a wall of botanicals by a local artist, a rattan bar cart, gleaming bare hardwood floors, an orchid, and a fabulous skirted table featuring Palma fabric by Christoper Farr. Palms take center stage with a view of the front yard, a potted palm in the living room, and this dramatic palm fabric.

Rattan bar carts are so versatile - perfect in this foyer style with candles, hurricanes, and books. I have three rattan bar carts and always have my eyes open for a new addition.

The Chinoiserie Bathroom

Robin Gannon

Robin Gannon's bathroom in the 2020 Kips Bay Decorator Showhouse features Brunschwig & Fils Feuillage wallpaper on the upper walls and ceiling. Note the black matte hardware that is the "it" thing. Trend or new classic? A potted orchid and bamboo mirror add Chinoiserie touches. Is it just me or does it bother you too that the mirror is part on the white woodwork and part on the wallpaper? Looks awkward to me.

Update - look what just arrived - you have to love Amazon Prime - a rare rainy morning here in sunny Florida but I had to share my dragon float - he inflated in seconds with my hair dryer. I'll post better pics this weekend in the pool with the sun out!

The Skirted Table

Amanda Lindroth

I am a sucker for a great skirted table, and I especially like the styling of this one with its pair of oversized blue and white ginger jars, a pair of blue and white brushstroke lamps, the gorgeous painted floor, a pair of framed botanicals, coral, a potted orchid, a dramatic mirror, and a fiddle leaf fig. There is a lot of symmetry going on here, but enough asymmetry that to me it is a nice balance. BTW, skirted tables are great for extra storage.

I love those Bunny Williams double gourd brushstroke lamps, but they retail for over $1,000 each - I got this one at HomeGoods for $30.00.

Chinoiserie Pop Quiz

Alex Papachristidis

Alex Papachristidis, a devotee of Chinoiserie decorating, has put together quite a vignette here. Ok, CC fans, let's see how many Chinoiserie icons we have going on here. And for you purists, not all are technically Chinoiserie, but have become part of the modern approach to decorating with Chinoiserie now known as Chinoiserie Chic, a phrase I coined when I started my blog back in 2009. See how many items you find before looking at the list. I have counted 20 pieces I would put under the rubric of Chinoiserie Chic decor.

1. Chinese garden stool
2. Chinoiserie fabric on two chairs
3. Elephant figurine
4. Potted orchid
5. Blue and white Chinese porcelain collection - four pieces
6. Pair of black and gold Chinoiserie sconces
7. Black and gold Chinoiserie wall shelf
8. Zebra rug
9. Shell collection - four pieces
10. Chinoiserie armoire
11. Pair of cranes

Chinoiserie for Mother's Day

A lovely gift for Mother's Day is a beautiful potted orchid. Make it even more special by presenting it in a blue and white cachepot.
