The Blue & White Chinese Garden Stool

Legend Accents Floral Birds Chinese Garden Stool

My two favorite chinoiserie pieces are definitely the ginger jar and the garden stool. The blue and white Chinese garden stool is such a versatile piece that will work anywhere in your home or garden. I think this one is especially beautiful with its hand painted birds and flowers.

Blue and White Chinese Porcelain Outdoors

via The Potted Boxwood

I love the gigantic blue and white Chinese porcelain planters in front of this lovely Dallas home. Blue and white Chinese porcelain is so pretty outdoors. I have lots of blue and white Chinese garden stools and fishbowls in my garden at CCC. Of course, with hurricanes in Florida, I use portable pieces that I can put in my garden wagon and have safe and secure in my garage when a hurricane blows through.

A Gorgeous Garden Stool

Silvie Garden Stool

I'll bet most everyone reading this has at least one blue and white Chinese garden stool. I have many at CCC both indoors and outdoors. I have found a new one that really is an especially lovely example.

The Chinoiserie Bathroom

Gen Sohr - Frederic Magazine

There is really no room in the house that a blue and white Chinese garden stool does not work. Although in many places a garden stool is used primarily to be decorative, in the bathroom or powder room it can be highly functional.

The Koi Chinese Garden Stool

Caroline Gidiere - Veranda

The home of interior designer Caroline Gidiere may be in Alabama, but that doesn't mean it can't have tropical decor. I love the koi Chinese garden stool in the bluestone back entry.

Christmas @ CCC

CCC

I used lots of blue and white Chinese porcelain together with traditional Christmas elements at my front entrance. Chinese fishbowls are filled with topiaries topped with Santa hats and with blue Holiball ornaments.

Palm Tree Chinese Garden Stools

Danielle Rollins

This is the front entrance of the Palm Beach home of Danielle Rollins and Tom D'Agostino. I am crazy about the blue and white Chinese garden stools with palm trees. I would love to find a pair of these for CCC.

Blue and White Chinoiserie Outdoors

Todd Richesin Interiors

I love this garden vignette with blue and white stripes and a pair of blue and white Chinese porcelain garden stools. I have had Chinese garden stools outside for decades and they do not deteriorate in the least. They were in my garden in Alexandria, Virginia in rain and snow and freezing temps and here in South Florida in scorching sun and tropical storms. I did move them into the garage for cat 5 Hurricane Ian though!

The Door Stop

Mark D. Sikes

I love the blue and white Chinese garden stool propping open the French door. Door stops are such a chic and functional and old school piece. An open door keeps everyone more comfortable on warm-weather days. It's also great for letting kids or pets roam freely, or providing a better flow for indoor-outdoor gatherings. Use for interior doors too for doors that close by themselves (often a  problem in historic homes) or as decor.

My New Project

Palm Beach Home of Danielle Rollins & Tom D'Agostino

I've decided to turn my attention to a bit more landscaping. This time of year is great for planting in South Florida as the rainy season is starting and the rain helps the plants to settle in. I'll be focusing on the front of the property. The rainy season here equates to the chance of a late afternoon downpour.

Tropical Blue & White Chinese Porcelain

Schumacher

If you are decorating a home in a tropical climate like South Florida, or a beach house, or just love the coastal vibe, I am crazy about using blue and white Chinese porcelain depicting koi and marine life and tropical plants and such. This above is a lovely example. These would also be fabulous in a lanai or pool house. The wallpaper is Schumacher's Feather Bloom.

Charleston Style

Elly Poston Cooper - Frederic Magazine

This is a lovely vignette in the living room of a Charleston home. I love the mix of vintage and antique pieces used in a modern way. Let's look more closely at some of the elements.

The Chinoiserie Front Door/CCC

CCC

When I bought my Florida home, the front entrance lacked personality, with nothing but painted concrete. The first thing I did was to add a pair of blue and white Chinese garden stools. They have been outside in my gardens for thirty years and I couldn't wait to use them here. They will be even happier because they are quite sheltered from the elements. I never thought about this before, but they are perfect for all of my deliveries ! Amazon Prime perches.

I keep a pair of umbrellas in the entryway - I take lots of walks with the pups and they are at the ready and I also love combining blue and white stripes with chinoiserie. A blue key fob is a new addition.

Risking Chinoiserie Outdoors

Mark Sikes

Mark Sikes took this photo and posted it on Instagram of this beautiful home in Southampton. Look at the the size of those blue and white Chinese vases/urns!!!! What a stunning home.

I know I am on the risk averse side, but I would be so nervous about them being stolen or accidentally knocked over or blown over in a summer storm.

Here is another view I found. They certainly make a statement!

Pinterest

I read a fascinating article that in Great Britain garden theft is about a $500 million a year industry. People use exterior alarm systems, barbed wire, and all sorts of anti-theft devices to protect their garden statues, pots, tools, and such. Fortunately, that has not become a problem in the U.S. where I feel like weather is more of an issue. They must have a better class of criminals in the UK.

I previously posted this photo below of a Palm Beach home with blue and white ginger jars in front.

The Blue and White Chinoiserie Bathroom

Shelley Johnstone Design

I am a huge fan of Shelley Johnstone and she lives and is based in my hometown of Lake Forest, Illinois. I love a white bathroom, but it can look a bit sterile. Blue and white Chinese porcelain is such a great way to soften it up. Other wonderful touches include the bubble chandelier and grotto chair and the touches of green in the chair cushion, towel monogram, and fresh flowers. Note the great storage for towels. I have always folded my towels and for some reason I roll them now just like this. I have no idea why I changed, but I like it. And brass fixtures on the tub and a sprayer - such a great idea.

Chinoiserie in the Garden

Carolyne Roehm

I absolutely adore blue and white Chinese porcelain in the garden. I currently have in my garden seven blue and white Chinese porcelain garden stools and four blue and white Chinese fishbowls.

Not much by Carolyne Roehm's standards, but the family is growing - I have ordered several more fishbowls that arrive on Tuesday pictured below.

BTW, I have had Chinese porcelain in my garden for decades through hot summers and cold winters with zero deterioration. They will be safely sheltered in my garage however for Florida hurricanes. We don't want them flying through the air! And I have started rotating my palms in fishbowls from the garden to the house to the lanai and back and they all love it. Happy palms, happy life - LOL.
