Hurricanes, Halloween, and Fall in Florida

CCC

With no fall foliage in South Florida, fall decorating is especially important to me. I am not complaining, I'll take palm trees and no leaves to rake any day!

Emerald Green

Shazalynn Cavin-Winfery - Veranda

The owners of this Greenwich, Connecticut home were poised to remove the solarium from their Georgian Colonial, when their interior designer thought of reimagining it as a bar solarium. My idea of heaven.

She lacquered everything that didn't move in a gorgeous high gloss emerald green and added octagonal marble floors. The fabric on the slipper chairs is a favorite of mine by Manuel Canovas named Pagoda. The fabric on the banquettes is by Hill Brown.

Nautical Chinoiserie

CCC

My front entrance was just painted concrete when I bought the house and did not make me happy. I love blue and white, love patterned tile, and love a nautical vibe. These star tiles checked all the boxes. I have styled the entrance with a pair of vintage blue and white Chinese garden stools, a large hurricane, and a handmade reclaimed lobster rope doormat available from a wonderful local Florida business - 30 Fathom Doormats.

Hurricanes

CCC

I knew that Florida is known for hurricanes, but did not realize until moving here how much I would like decorating with hurricanes. A favorite pair are these cobalt blue wicker Amanda Lindroth ones. I also love her palm etched hurricane in yesterday's post. I use them every evening when night falls. I never use candles in unattended rooms, so I love the battery pillar candles made from real wax with a remote control and timer.

It cuts down on electricity too, but utilities here are so reasonable it is astounding. My entire house is electric and my utility bill for December was $60!

Blue and White

Aerin Lauder

This room is absolute perfection and the epitome of the look I am going for in my home. A blue and white palette, wicker, rattan, coral, hurricanes, bare windows with views of outdoors, and this stunning bullion trimmed tablecloth. I would love to do a blue and white tablecloth like this for my breakfast room table when I feel like a change. These rattan and wicker chairs are to die for.

Setting the Thanksgiving Table

Traditional Home

Here is inspiration for setting the Thanksgiving table for those of us whose color palette is not in the autumnal browns and golds and for a more tropical rather than cozy vibe for warmer climates. I love the aqua and coral colors. Note the faux bamboo hurricanes and black faux bamboo flatware. And as you can see, this is set outdoors which with the pandemic is a safer option for entertaining if one has that option. I know here lots of folks are planning on a beach Thanksgiving meal.

Hurricanes

CCC

My title is a bit tongue in cheek as we are under a tropical storm warning for the remnants of Hurricane Eta. So a rare cool rainy day or two here in paradise. It's 75 degrees as I type and a walker just passed in a down coat. LOL!

I found this lovely hurricane at HomeGoods on Friday. It has a gilded palm frond just like many in my backyard. Hurricanes are wonderful for candles, of course, but they also make great vases.

A happy and relaxing Sunday to everyone after a very long week. I for one am completely sleep deprived.
