Setting the Thanksgiving Table

Tory Burch

This beautiful Thanksgiving table setting by Tory Burch has lots of great ideas to borrow. The color palette is orange and purple with hot pink. Chinoiserie touches include Imari vases filled with fresh flowers and berries and pewter bamboo flatware. Tealights are a pretty alternative to candlesticks and nice and low so as to not block your view of others at the table.

Fall Florals

Carolyne Roehm

Mums are plentiful this time of year in both potted plants and cut flowers. To really elevate this flower, pair it with blue and white Chinese porcelain. A perfect combination.

Staub Pumpkins in the Kitchen

Staub Pumpkin Cocottes

A great kitchen is something we all love, but it doesn't stop with cabinets, appliances, and counters. Both highly functional and very beautiful, Le Creuset cast iron cookware and Staub cast iron cookware (especially their pumpkin cocottes) have become even more sought after of late.

Coral Chinoiserie

Coral Chinese Porcelain

Chinese porcelain in tones of coral, orange, and Chinese red are a gorgeous alternative to blue and white Chinese porcelain. I love this look for a beach house or summer house and it's so pretty paired with conch shells with their beautiful soft coral interiors. It looks stunning mixed with blue and white Chinese porcelain.

Decorating with Citrus for the Holidays

Southern Living

Florida is the citrus state producing more than 70% of the nation's citrus. I have always loved decorating with oranges, lemons, limes, and kumquats for the holidays, but they are especially appropriate (and plentiful) here in south Florida. I love this front entrance with magnolia wreaths and cuttings, pinecones, and oranges. So easy, so elegant, and so southern.

Happy Halloween

CCC

In honor of Halloween, a peek at my orange and black guest bath. The wallpaper is long discontinued Clarence House Chinoiserie Baroque left over from my dining room in Alexandria. The sink counter is black marble. The art and accessories are all from my Alexandria home. My painter used high gloss Benjamin Moore Tandoori on the wainscoting, crown molding, and door and he faux finished the column to look like silk. I love the room and that I was able to incorporate much loved wallpaper and things from my old home.

The Chinoiserie Dining Room

Gracie Studio

This stunning dining room features Gracie wallpaper in a custom orange and Bungalow 5 loop chairs. Frances Elkins style loop chairs are such a favorite of mine. I bet this dining room is gorgeous at night too. The black fireplace surround is wonderful - black and orange are the perfect duo.

Bold Beautiful Color

Katie Ridder - House Beautiful

I love this dramatic room - tangerine walls, a corner tufted banquette covered in an exuberant chintz, a unique Chinese garden stool, a gold ceiling, a striking green rug, and a beautifully detailed roman shade.

The day went perfectly yesterday - I have a beautiful new Frame TV and a great sound system. I will post more details and pics tomorrow. I am taking the day off and chilling.

Here is a sneak peek -

The Guest Bath and Update

Amy Berry

I made progress this week on my new home on so many fronts. I posted yesterday on plans for the guest bathroom. I stopped by Benjamin Moore for orange paint samples yesterday. There are many that look great with my wallpaper. I will order several samples from Samplize to bring over to the new house to try.

The vanity will be lacquered in orange like the wainscoting. I will change out the counter and sink. I love the looks of this counter above. Does this look dark green or black and does it look like marble or granite? The combination with the orange wallpaper is killer. I want this. I Also love the rectangular sink. I have two beautiful gold mirrors from my previous home that I will try out and see if they might work. I would love to find spots for one or both. The wallpaper pictured here is Coral Monkey Business by Bob Collins and Sons. OMG - is the toilet seat lid actually up in a photo shoot????

Here is another shot - I love the art.

Gray Malin - Mykonos Blue and Orange Umbrellas

Well, I am going on all cylinders here. This week I -

1. Ordered a chandelier for the breakfast room
2. Received the Dana Gibson fixture for the foyer
3. Hired the movers
4. Decided on home insurance
5. Chose the canvas palm tree with all your help
6. Received the gray Samplize paint samples and made a likely choice
7. Chose a sofa for the great room
8. Chose a sofa for the study
9. Decided on lighting for my un dining room
10. Found a couple great items at HomeGoods
11. Figured out how to have a television in the master bedroom and hide it
12. Hunted down two out of stock items from Williams Sonoma that I will pick up today
13. Ordered a really fun rattan piece from Urban Outfitters

I will post on some of these coming up. Let me know if you are interested in seeing any of these and would love your thoughts on the vanity counter above. I hope you all know how much I appreciate and am enjoying all of your comments. It is making this journey more fun and more successful. Thank you.

Chinoiserie Repurposed and Finding the Perfect Orange

Some of you may remember my story from 2010, when a follower of Chinoiserie Chic gave me a head's up that an Etsy seller was selling 15 rolls of Clarence House Chinoiserie Baroque wallpaper for $150.00. A very expensive and discontinued wallpaper BTW. I snatched it up - what a steal!!!!!!!!! and had it hung in my dining room.

I am thrilled to have enough left to do my guest bathroom in the new home.

I  am redoing the lighting and the vanity but that is for another post. Today, the dilemma is I want to keep the wainscoting and have my painter lacquer it in high gloss orange that will go with my wallpaper to be hung above. I need to choose a paint color as they will be starting on July 9th.

The Benjamin Moore App came up with Tandoori.

So, your mission is to help me find an orange BM paint that will work with my wallpaper. I want it to be fun and not too brown and russety and could use your thoughts. It needs to go with the tile and wallpaper and tie everything together. I will order a few Samplize as soon as we find some options. You can weigh in with these I have found or suggest others. BTW, orange is absolutely stunning with blue and white Chinese porcelain.

This could be great with very little $. I plan to have my great stone folks use a granite or quartz remnant for the vanity and top it with a vessel sink and switch out the lighting fixture to something more chic. And I am thrilled to use a paper I loved in my Alexandria home.. I am also having the laundry room wallpapered. I will post on the laundry room too. Stay tuned.......

And the big favorite yesterday was the Royal Palm. Thanks for participating.

P.S. Two additions thanks to two follower's comments - I neglected to say that the vanity will be lacquered in the orange as well. And here's another great orange -

Here is a pretty alternative to blue and white from the Savannah Showhouse by interior designer Melanie Turner - a collection of green and white Chinese porcelain with pops of orange and metallic and a piece of modern art by Sally King Benedict. The gilt console is 18th century. Here are more shots of this master bedroom below. It's my daughter's birthday today - Happy Birthday Kate!

Lots of great ideas to borrow here - I love the dramatic oversized Blanc de Chine lamp, the gold faux bamboo pagoda mirror, the tiny pair of blue and white ginger jars, the pair of orange vases atop blue Greek key stands, the blue and white Chinese porcelain vases on the wall, and the China Seas Chinoiserie pillows.

Setting the Chinoiserie Table

Beth Connolly Interiors

I will be cooking at home this Thanksgiving, so today I started planning my table. Here are a few vignettes from my dining room. I decided to use these Dransfield and Ross Greek key placemats paired with my wedding china - Wedgwood Chinese Tigers. I will post pictures when I put it all together.
