Pink & Green Palm Beach Style

Kim Seybert

Blue and white is of course a classic in a beach house, but the addition of pink and green is very Palm Beach. This wonderful table setting has lots of inspiration for setting a fabulous Spring/Summer table.

A Dream Chinoiserie Bathroom

Laney LA

This is absolutely my dream bathroom featuring de Gournay Amazonia wallpaper. Amazonia is a contemporary interpretation of an 18th Century chinoiserie design. The motif updates more traditional compositions of birds and flowers for a vivid tropical verdant rain forest variation, created in collaboration with Edgardo Osorio, founder and creative director of luxury footwear brand Aquazzura.

A Wicker Menagerie @ CCC

CCC

Do you spot the newest member of my menagerie? After getting my hair done in downtown Sarasota yesterday, I ran into the HomeGoods on Bee Ridge Road (for the local peeps) and spotted this monkey. I have been wanting a Mario Lopez Torres rattan animal for a while.

Perfect Mother's Day Gift for the Chinoiserie Lover

Jasmine and Yuzu Porcelain Diffuser

I have found a delightful gift for Mother's Day. Refresh any room with the sophisticated floral and citrus notes of jasmine and yuzu. Simply place the porous porcelain floral sprigs in the bottle of oil to disperse the light, delicate fragrance. Both the visual and the scent are very Chinoiserie Chic.

Thanksgiving Table Inspiration

Stephanie Hoppen

I was shopping at Publix yesterday and they had the most beautiful purple mums. It brought to mind this table setting I posted several years back. I really like the blue and white with purple palette and I think this would be wonderful for setting the Thanksgiving table.

Mailchimp, Monkeys, & Me

Amanda Lindroth

Those of you who subscribe to Chinoiserie Chic may have noticed some format differences in your daily email the last couple of days. Feedburner is no longer providing email subscriptions as of July 1, so I needed a new service. I chose Mailchimp. If you are already subscribed, you don't need to do a thing. You will continue to receive daily emails. If you are new to CC and would like to subscribe, there is a box in my sidebar you fill out.

Perfection

Amanda Lindroth

Rarely do I see a room that captures precisely my taste. This is definitely it. I would not change a single solitary thing about it. Let's look at all the amazing elements.

*A pink velvet sofa with bullion fringe - it is actually a corner sofa - see the photo below. I ain't calling this a sectional - LOL. The fabric and trim are Mary McDonald for Schumacher.

Amanda Lindroth

*The walls are covered in fabric - Schumacher's Great Barrier Reef.

*That incredible pair of Singerie Blanc de Chine monkeys.

*Layered rugs - a black and white stripe over seagrass matting.

*Palm frond lighting fixture.

*The pale green ceiling.

* A lucite coffee table.

*The oversized faux bamboo sconces.

*The zebra - I am still searching for one of these guys.

*Wicker.

*Seashells.

*Orchids.

This is the perfect color palette of pink and green with touches of black to ground it and a mix of chinoiserie, Hollywood Regency, Palm Beach, island style.

This room is featured in a wonderful interior design book - S is for Style:The Schumacher Book of Decoration.

PS - I found another shot of this room and you can catch a peek of a Slim Aarons photo "Sea Drive" above the mantel.

Monkey Business

Herend Monkey

My daughter and I both collect monkeys and yesterday I added four to my menagerie from HomeGoods. I thought you might enjoy a little tour of my monkey house - but it smells great! Monkeys are quintessentially Chinoiserie and I love their whimsy and charm.

I learned that Florida has a growing population of Rhesus Macaque monkeys not native to Florida because in the 1930s and 1940s, the owner of a glass bottom boat business released a dozen of these monkeys to increase his tourism business and they now number in the hundreds.

Monkey Business & The Master Bath

In the master bath

One of my wonderful followers suggested that I try my pair of blue and white Chinese porcelain monkeys in the master bath on the bath surround. My daughter and found these years ago at Goodwill in Alexandria for $12.00! They look adorable. I put hand towels in one and sea sponges in the other. So cute!

Who remembers these JCPenney stools that bloggers were all snatching up for DIY? I use it now for my bath towel getting out of the shower or the bath.

Here it is below in my old dining room.

And seashells in the toilet room.

On tap today is an orchid for the master bath from Trader Joe's. I swear by their orchids and everything else BTW.

Dog Days

Harper

An exciting day in dog world yesterday. In the mad rush to get things out of the old house, the pups' dog beds got left behind by the movers. And I have decided to stop calling him GG which I decided is a bit too cute and harmless sounding. Any ideas for a new moniker are welcome. Their new banana leaf beds arrived yesterday. Check out the hot pink piping. They seem to be happy with them. For small dogs, a Euro size (26" by 26") pillow and sham works great and can be easily laundered as needed. These were from Etsy available here. And I love that she is right here in Florida. I love supporting local businesses.

Margot

The monkeys kept a watchful eye on the pups as they settled in on their new beds.

Vintage blue and white monkeys

Of course, this is where the pups sleep at night.

Setting the Chinoiserie Table

NYBG Orchid Dinner

I am a sucker for a beautifully set table that includes Chinoiserie. It is funny that when I got married I didn't even know the word Chinoiserie but both my china patterns were in fact Chinoiserie! This fabric is Brunschwig & Fils Samarkand edged with Greek key and of course I love the orchids and monkeys.

Singerie

The Pink Clutch

I am a devotee of monkeys/singerie and just scored a much larger pair just like this blue and white monkey at Goodwill for $11.00. They are sitting under my coffee table right now and they look like they are holding it up. Below is another example - love him with the orange foo dogs.

Celebration Week - New Inspiration Board & New Ideabook

I am celebrating my four year blogiversary this coming Saturday. This week I am doing a new fantasy inspiration board each day and on Friday I will be announcing my blogiversary giveaway.

I would love to have this office. It is painted a very soft lavender. The lacquered metal desk is the Large Strut Table in Watermelon by Blu Dot. The art is Paule Marrot's "Feathers." The rug is vintage Fornasetti. On the desk is a Harry Allen gold pig bank and a vintage Chinese lamp with a kelly green silk dupioni shade. The chandelier is by Marjorie Skouras. The canary yellow silk bergere club chair is from Charlotte & Ivy. The pillow is a new favorite fabric - Mandarin Dragons by Design Legacy.

My May Houzz Ideabook is up and it is on monkeys - so fun! Check it out here. I have done 24 Ideabooks for Houzz with sources for hundreds of fantastic Chinoiserie picks - you can always find them by clicking on "My Ideabooks on Houzz" in my sidebar. This is a an excellent Chinoiserie sourcebook.

Setting the Thanksgiving Table

Jennifer at The Pink Pagoda posted this fantastic table today that is from one of my favorite interior design books, Stephanie Hopen's Blue and White Living. This is a wonderful alternative to the harvest colors (that are not my favorites) for the Thanksgiving table. Blue and white with deep purple flowers and blanc de Chine singerie monkeys for a dose of Chinoiserie are a stunning combination. Any Chinoiserie figurines can of course be used. Here are other great examples below.

The Decorator Archives - Singerie

I am a huge fan of "singerie," a French word meaning monkey trick. This genre depicts monkeys aping human behavior, often fashionably attired. This original piece of art from France is on crackled canvas. At a very impressive 3'7" by 7'6", this would be a very dramatic addition to your home.
