Dog Days

Harper

An exciting day in dog world yesterday. In the mad rush to get things out of the old house, the pups' dog beds got left behind by the movers. And I have decided to stop calling him GG which I decided is a bit too cute and harmless sounding. Any ideas for a new moniker are welcome. Their new banana leaf beds arrived yesterday. Check out the hot pink piping. They seem to be happy with them. For small dogs, a Euro size (26" by 26") pillow and sham works great and can be easily laundered as needed. These were from Etsy available here. And I love that she is right here in Florida. I love supporting local businesses.

Margot

The monkeys kept a watchful eye on the pups as they settled in on their new beds.

Vintage blue and white monkeys

Of course, this is where the pups sleep at night.

    1. Great, I was thinking MN for Malignant Narcissist, but yours is far better.

  4. I like NB! I called the NB in my life "The Jerk." Because he was/is. The stories I could tell. Unfortunately he is not fully out of my life because he is my children's father.

    1. Fortunately, we were not married, but he has been completely cut off by his only sibling, ex-wife, daughter, and granddaughters. I bet you are a great mom and friend. P.S. - the stories I could tell....

  6. Your home looks gorgeous. Your dogs and ttheir beds are adorable. I especially love your bed/Master Bedroom! I appreciate that you posted links back to the story of your RL chandelier. You are a very lucky shopper! It was fun to read.

    1. Thanks, the chandelier was such a nice story about my wonderful followers, but also about people being good to one another which we could use more of now.

  9. I’m agreeing with “NB” - perfect! Loving your pups’ new dog beds! I have the same pillows in the 20” size from the same vendor for my outdoor table & chairs - marvelous quality!

  10. My sister calls her horrible ex Rear View...she never ever says his name. Have you found a veterinarian yet? My MIL had one on Bee Ridge that nearly killed her cat. We are not litigious people but what this person did was so horrible, we sued and won. My husband had to fly down there twice to get it all straightened out bc it was also elder abuse. If you want the name to avoid like hell, just email me.

    1. I have a wonderful vet here - Dr. Kate on Clark Road. She is the best. All the staff bring their animals and there is a Cavalier, a Frenchie, even a lovely pig. It's couches and artwork and set up like living rooms - the pups adore going and she is really great.

    2. Fantastic! That is who we had chosen for a new vet, then moved MIL up here. I taught prevet students, so I’m blessed my current vets were all “my kids”!

  11. I hope the day will come when you don’t have to think of him, mention him at all. And it will. It takes time though. In the meantime, I think asshole says it all. Trips off the tongue, just two syllables. 😊 He’s not worthy of more than that. Try not to let him live in your head. God bless.

    1. I know you mean well and I thank you for that. But two weeks ago today my dogs were taken hostage and I was locked out. I slept on the floor here.

I will not sweep this under the rug and be silenced. Nor should any victim of domestic abuse. More of us need to speak out and I intend to do so and also intend to help others similarly situated. It to me is akin to telling someone grieving that they have grieved long enough. We each process grief in our own way and abuse in our own way. Speaking out is far better and far more empowering than silence.

Silence is the friend of bullies and abusers.

    2. SUCH a good point, ie comparing grief to other mental suffering. Along these future advocacy lines, Beth - how important is it to arrive on the advocacy scene credentialed in Florida [such as being a member of the Florida Bar, licensed to practice in Florida, and the like]? Will transferring your VA/DC credentials to FL be too much of a great big unnecessary hassle? I can't wait for you to arrive on the scene in this professional category, in fact I looked around and see there's a very organized/centralized entity out of Sarasota County for you to explore [your words --->] "when the dust settles." https://www.sparcc.net/

    3. I have been in contact with SPARCC and they are a wonderful organization. I do not think being member of the bar here is necessary.

  12. Don't you love it when it all comes together so nicely? Your neutral palette is perfect for all sorts of permutations and color accents and with your lovely inventory you'll never get bored "playing".
The dog beds are lovely, heck, I'd love something just like that for window seat cushions. I am a sucker for contrast piping--from upholstery to clothes.

I've always been partial to the classic SOB. Men and women get it, it speaks volumes, it has stood the test of time.

  15. How about Satan? I love seeing your treasured pieces in their new environment! And your pups are exquisite! I think your attitude about advocating for victims of domestic violence and abuse is spot on. Bullies and abusers have won for far too long because victims have remained silent.

  16. Beth, in the What Do I Know department, from where I sit [and read], monster [lower case intentional] has more reason to dread running into YOU than the other way around. You are the one who [despite the slow drip of his physical, emotional and verbal abuse] deftly captured the upper hand in a dangerous confrontation of brains and brawn, YOU in the company of police escorts, no less! You kicked in his doors, rescued your property, humilated and shamed his sorry a** with the police enabling every action you took against his faux-authority.

I'm sorry about using this Anonymous status, I could sign on to my Google account but I'm so paranoid about Google and Amazon now [I will never use Amazon ever again], that I'm just commenting via Anonymous until I get more secure about the various tech giants. All best to you, Beth.

  17. I once referred to someone close to me as "The Prince of Darkness", but that probably takes too long to say.

The dogs are adorable, and so are their new beds. So many wonderful things on Etsy. FABULOUS MONKEYS! By any chance, did you find those on Chairish? Your home is coming together beautifully. I can't wait until the next CC installment.

    1. Thanks - my daughter and I found those at Goodwill in Alexandria for $12 for the pair. I like Chairish, but IMHO the prices are nuts. They would be more like $350 for the pair I bet. I like Prince of Darkness.

  19. Love Margo's up close beauty shot. I concur with Delta that SOB is known by all. I also would double Toot's syllable and suggest Mother Fu**ker, without the asterisks would be my choice, but then, when it comes to swearing, I'm a purist. (One of my college roommates thought I was such a prissy little thing, that her year-long project was to teach me to swear properly! LOL) However my very favorite choice would be to name the manipulating AH, SOB, Mother Fu**ker. Call him by his name.

    1. It's complicated when you are dealing with a litigious vindictive little sh** with anger management issues. Great story - he was in group anger management therapy where you and your anger management partner would be on the floor and take turns lying on top of one another and screaming.

  20. Beth ~ victor is your personal word of the day. Week. Month ~
    Permanence. Because YOU come first.
Regarding the vampire who failed miserably at sucking all the life out of you ~ I have a somewhat different take. When I experienced a much milder, less well crafted version of the bully, I made my own word out of his name. I have a close friend who is in process of dealing with his own narcissistic partner and again, we crafted a name from his actual name. That may or may not be possible in your circumstances. Looking back I think it was a subconscious choice to demean him in the way he got pleasure from demeaning others. I can truly say, that although the name rarely comes up, when it does, I smile. Crazy as that sounds. Because victory is bliss. Ever F Lasting Bliss. I would love to share the names with you if you’d like to hear them ~ just message me. And let me just say “you are clearly a conqueror !!” ☀️😘☀️

    1. I really am concerned about using his real name but it is a shame because adding one letter to his name it becomes the perfect moniker. Thanks - could you email me?

    2. Yes I sure will. My posts in your comment section either identify with my google account name or my business name/initials. The email will arrive from the latter. I laughed out loud when you said one letter would make it. That’s hilarious.

As for "he who shall not be named" can't really think of anything. Wait, since he's such a golf nut call him Bogey. Or Mud Ball: that's a ball with a lot of crap on it...

How about TP- for Total P---K? Side note: in my family we call toilet paper TP. Which seems an appropriate comparison since he is a POS.

  28. My suggestion that you not let him “live in your head” was not intended as advice to keep silent. Not at all! I was speaking of long term. That part was a challenge for me, even though I had a new, happy life. Finally, I realized I was letting him sort of poison the new life. I applaud your willingness to share and to help others. Rock on!
And I just thought of my favorite perjorative for people like him...RB. (Rat bastard). 👍😱😊
