Monkey Business & The Master Bath

In the master bath

One of my wonderful followers suggested that I try my pair of blue and white Chinese porcelain monkeys in the master bath on the bath surround. My daughter and found these years ago at Goodwill in Alexandria for $12.00! They look adorable. I put hand towels in one and sea sponges in the other. So cute!

Who remembers these JCPenney stools that bloggers were all snatching up for DIY? I use it now for my bath towel getting out of the shower or the bath.

Here it is below in my old dining room.

And seashells in the toilet room.

On tap today is an orchid for the master bath from Trader Joe's. I swear by their orchids and everything else BTW.

  3. I spy some more of that beautiful accent tile.

Ditto on TJ especially for their flower and wine selections!

  5. Monkeys look just perfect there--form AND function at its best.

I covet that JC Penny stool--wish I had 2 side by side to place at the foot of my bed.

The seashells on the tank look fancy. And in the winter some paper-white bulbs forced out would also look wonderful especially in that type of bowl.

    Never too many orchids!

  7. Perfectly charming!
Orchid Q: what do you do when your orchid's blooms have fallen -- do you keep it & bring it back to another blooming season, or do you pitch it? My guilt needs assuaged.

    1. In tropical climates like here, one can put them in the lanai and try to get them to rebloom. But my attitude is that they are seriously cheap at places like Trader Joe's and last for 2 to 3 months, so I am happy treating them like cut flowers and pitching them after blooming.

    2. I use garden wire to fasten them onto a low branch (shaded) of one of my garden trees and leave them alone. When they’re ready they’ll rebloom and flower for a long time with many branches of blooms. Nature will take care of watering, fertilizing, etc. You’ll have an “orchid tree”. Delightful!

  8. I think the monkeys have some serious—albeit charming—business to do. I agree that I think they make nice with the tile inserts. I'm seeing a CCC logo with two elephants sitting back to back, leaning in slighting making two of the "C's" and a monkey standing on each elephant holding a parasol with another "C"!!! Can you "C" it? Or "C" something like that? Ha ha!!! Feeling really bored, obviously!!!

    1. You are funny! I love the detailing in the house - both bathrooms have the tile inserts as does the lanai, and the master bedroom has two stained glass window transoms.

  9. All great! I have a few shells and thinking about buying some white finger coral on ebay to go with them - love the idea of using a Chinoiserie bowl to display them. Thanks again! BTW, just ordered my third mat from 30 Fathoms!

  11. My mom has the same ones in her bathroom holding bars of soap!
They look great with the tile accents- kinda ties them in better.

    1. I was thinking about guest soaps, but everyone uses liquid nowadays. HomeGoods had tons of liquid but zero bars.

    2. Try TJ Maxx for amazing selection of bar soaps. Very reasonable, too.

  13. You have been singing my tune! I too "get a feeling" and always find a gem on those trips to HG. Recently I helped my granddaughter get her 1st apt. in shape and HG was essential in finding "just the right thing". I also get that same feeling about Evolution Home (local consignment store) and have found some real treasures. Locals - it's a great spot in Alexandria.
However, I would like to ask you to slow down a bit ;-) You so inspired me with your beautiful home that our house has been upside down with painting, shopping in the attic and switching things up a little. Love the changes so thanks for the inspiration! You've done an amazing job in so little time and your house reflects your keen eye - stunning.

    1. Until I moved to Florida, I shopped and consigned at Evolution Home all the time. It was 5 minutes from my house.
