I posted yesterday a stunning and very sophisticated pink dining room by Amanda Lindroth. The entryway above is from the same home. I love skirted tables, but you rarely see a skirted console table. This pink and white ikat one is wonderful. And pink combines so beautifully with blue and white Chinese porcelain.

A wonderful chinoiserie entryway featuring chinoiserie wallpaper from Gracie Studio, a pair of velvet slipper chairs from Billy Baldwin Studio upholstered in Pierre Frey and trimmed in Houles, a Bunny Williams Home table, a rug from The Rug Company, and an antique lantern from Parc Monseau in Atlanta. I especially love the pops of coral and red.

I love these rooms and especially the color palette - the blues of the ceilings, fringed velvet sofa, and Chinese Chippendale chairs, the greens of the console table, chair, sofa pillows, and art, and the lovely coral and blue rug.

I have posted before on this jaw dropping foyer in the Palm Beach home of Liz Lange. I think the blue and white Chinese porcelain pagoda really adds so much to the drama. I have found some options in large blue and white pagodas that would make an incredible statement piece or pair in an entryway, a fireplace mantel, or on a dining room sideboard, for example.

 I have long been a huge fan of DC area based interior designer Kelley Proxmire and this is another stunning example. Sue me, but I will always love a skirted table. I have three in my Florida home. 

This wonderful blue and white chinoiserie example is in Lee Joffa's Blue Willow. And I must mention the glimpse of the navy and white horizontal striped curtains. I will make sure my daughter sees this as inspiration for her new Annapolis nautical chinoiserie home that has a grand two story foyer.

 In this lovely entrance, Mark Sikes combines his signature elements - blue and white Chinese porcelain, stripes, wicker, jute rug, plants, and pedestals with a beautiful spearmint green color and soft cream woodwork. The combination is so pretty and ethereal.

I love my foyer - double French doors and a transom and high ceilings let in tons of natural light. A black and gold antique Chinese chest, a brass and black marble console table, and blue and white Chinese porcelain are from my Alexandria home. They combine with Florida touches like palms and seashells and a new Dana Gibson faux bamboo oversized Chinese lantern. The color palette introduces the colors in the rest of my home - blue and white with pink and green and lots of gold.

This dramatic foyer features Gracie Studios wallpaper, lacquered black ceiling and door, and stunning wood floors. The purple console table is an interesting choice. Purple is pretty much the only color I don't use in my home. I love lavender, but not a dark purple personally. But this pop of purple definitely works here with the green walls.

This is a favorite vignette of mine in the foyer at CCC - I love the combination of the black and gold Chinoiserie chest, ginger jars, and seashells. Everything is vintage and repurposed from my home in Alexandria. The chest holds all of my placemats and napkins BTW.

Did you read that Mick Jagger and his girlfriend bought a home in Sarasota? Will there be a Rolling Stones concert in my future?

I did a little styling in my foyer yesterday. So fun!

I mentioned I am interested in growing orchids on my trees in my Venice garden. I saw this done for the first time in Jamaica while on my honeymoon cruise and tucked it away in my brain. There is an excellent piece from The American Orchid Society with all the details, but you basically unpot the orchid removing the soil and attach it to your tree using pantyhose or long strand sphagnum moss or raffia twine or black cloth (something soft in other words) and keep the roots moist while it's getting established. My palm trees and oak trees are both perfect choices.

As for the alligator succulent topiary - I have ordered the form and plan to stuff it myself with sphagnum moss and plant it with succulents - I am thinking either Echeveria

 or Graptoveria.

You just make openings in the sphagnum moss with a pencil or screwdriver and stick in the succulent stems without soil and secure with a hairpin, florist pin, or more moss. There are tons of You Tube videos on topiaries showing it in more detail. The succulents grow and expand quickly so you obviously don't cover it but leave several inches of space between each. I read that you can just cut off the succulent stem and insert it, saving the pot, and a new succulent will grow in the pot. This obviously is much more cost effective. OK gardener friends, is that coleus inside his mouth?

I will post photos when I work on these projects.

Another gorgeous day here of course. Everyone told me it would take me a summer to adjust to the summer heat here and I found I needed zero adjusting. I think the summer heat and humidity here is very much like the D.C. summers. And no more coats and boots in my future. Glorious!

My New Foyer Plans

I did this inspiration board quite a while back featuring pieces from The Pink Pagoda. I am crazy about using green with blue and white - such a crisp, clean, and happy color palette.

I knew the major pieces of furniture and art I that I own that I wanted to use in the foyer, but something was missing. Then I came upon this Dana Gibson lighting fixture below and the whole thing came together in an instant. I have ordered this for the foyer.

Well, this gives you a good idea of the foyer game plan. The foyer has a pair of French doors and a nice high ceiling. When you walk in, you are immediately faced with sliders all along the back and the gorgeous view of ancient palm trees. Very Old Florida. I wanted pops of green in the foyer to introduce the explosion of green outdoors.

 I have ordered the Samplize paint samples and they are to arrive today.  I will post about how they work out. I have a great High/Low post, paint color decisions, and a couple more things I need help with planned for the week. Please stay tuned.

Another room in this fabulous Palm Beach home I posted about yesterday. The foyer has a favorite wallpaper of mine - Chinese Lattice in Emerald/White by Bob Collins & Sons. A vintage shell encrusted table from 1st dibs is topped with a massive blue and white pagoda, blue and white Chinese porcelain cachepots, and a clamshell filled with lemons. Recall my post a couple months back when I got one of these clamshells for my lanai? This is lots of fun. (BTW, the table seems to like to change rooms - see yesterday's post.)

Lots of great ideas here - Chinoiserie includes a large blue and white ginger jar on a pedestal, a pair of blue and white Chinese garden stools, a blue and white Chinese porcelain vase, and grasscloth sheathed walls. These are mixed with an oversized lantern with hand painted blue and white stripes, a zig zag abaca rug, a navy blue door, and a fun blue and white settee. I love this modern and playful take on British Colonial in this Bahamian vacation house.
