Blue & White Ikat & Chinoiserie

CCC

Blue and white ikat and chinoiserie are a wonderful combination. Above is a rare Schumacher ikat ginger jar along with matching ikat china in my lanai at CCC.

Combining the structured elegance of chinoiserie with the earthy, soft lines of ikat creates a "global chic" aesthetic. The structured beauty of chinoiserie balances the relaxed, blurred lines of ikat, especially when tying both together using a cohesive color palette (like classic blue and white).

Most ikat you find will be textiles that pair beautifully with chinoiserie like blue and white Chinese porcelain. Here are some lovely blue and white ikat options -

Blue and Green Ikat for Spring

Brunschwig & Fils

This is so pretty and so many favorites here - ikat, gorgeous trim on the sofa, my favorite chinoiserie fabric Xian, a tortoiseshell coffee table, and the beautiful palette of blue and green. I love mixing patterns and ikat and chinoiserie are such a winning combination.

More Pink with Sophistication

Amanda Lindroth

I posted yesterday a stunning and very sophisticated pink dining room by Amanda Lindroth. The entryway above is from the same home. I love skirted tables, but you rarely see a skirted console table. This pink and white ikat one is wonderful. And pink combines so beautifully with blue and white Chinese porcelain.

Fuchsia & Apricot

Gary McBournie - Veranda

I love the color palette of this breakfast banquette space in a Victorian London townhouse. The fruit watercolors are 19th century Chinese. The banquette is covered in a fuchsia and orange ikat by Manuel Canovas called Boheme in colorway Rose and Orange. Ikat and chinoiserie is a wonderful combination as is pink and orange.

Setting the Summer Table

Beatriz Satrustegui

This table setting could not be more beautiful and includes so many of my favorites things - an ikat tablecloth, the coral plates, wicker coasters, sea urchins, a color palette of coral and cream and gold. This is perfect for those of us in tropical climates, but would work anywhere as a summer table setting.

I love sea urchins - this is my pretty little Aerin Lauder one. Sea urchin or uni is also my favorite food in the world.

Global Chinoiserie

OutSourceSol

I love the vibe of this room with its gorgeous chinoiserie panels mixed with a wicker chaise, seagrass ottomans, ikat pillows, animal prints, and hide rug. This room is modern, eclectic, and global and even a bit beachy.

Can anyone explain the pink cords from the pendant lighting? Could that be to adjust the height??? I hope they are not electrical cords....

Saturday Inspiration

Jenny Keenan - Southern Living

I really like the mix of blue and white Chinese porcelain and blue and white ikat in this living room of a South Carolina beach house. Note the seashells in the acrylic trunk - that's a neat idea. I want to do more with seashells here. I have a lot, but haven't put most of them out yet. My ikat collection is growing - my new Schumacher ikat ginger jar and a few ikat caftans that I am literally living in.

Look at this collection of Bunny Williams seashells. That's what I need, a seashell drawer. LOL

House by the Sea - Bunny Williams

Here is lovely table styling of my Mercer dining table (but with the marble top). Who knows what the flowers are? The name is on the tip of my tongue but my perennials encyclopedia got left behind at guess where....

Williams Sonoma Home

Two more things. My wallpaper installation I had hoped for yesterday turned into a text from my installer that he broke his leg and is out of commission for two months. Do any of my local followers know a good wallpaper hanger? Help!!!!!!!

Lastly, I have a really neat idea for the lanai that involves a Dash & Albert polypropylene indoor/outdoor rug. They get great reviews, but are pretty pricey in the larger sizes I am thinking about. Any experiences you can share?

My beloved Alexandria, Virginia had flash flooding on Thursday with many homes flooded. The pictures are unbelievable. Weather is getting crazy everywhere.

Have a great day everyone.

The Blue and White Powder Room

I  love the mix of the blue and white ikat wallpaper with the faux bamboo mirror. Note how the door has been painted to match the wallpaper.

An easy way to mix patterns is to keep everything in the same color palette.

Snow Week Shopping Finds

Despite the snow and frigid temperatures in DC this week, I found two lovely treasures for my home.

Ages ago I posted on this gorgeous Dana Gibson ikat ginger jar above that I saw on One Kings Lane. By the time I found it, it was sold out. Then the other night on One Kings Lane, this ikat ginger jar below appeared and I promptly ordered one. It is being delivered today. The colors will be beautiful in my living room. Not exactly the same, the one above is painted metal and the one below is ceramic, but close enough for me.

I popped into one of my thrift store haunts yesterday after getting dug out from the snow and found this darling vintage wicker torso for $10.00. Wicker breasts. ;-) I thought it would be fun in my laundry room adorned with necklaces.

For me, a bit of shopping, online or in person, is just the cure for cabin fever. Hope any of you hit by this snow storm are safe and warm. My Tibetan Spaniel Izzy can't get enough of the snow.

Ikat, Suzani, & Chinoiserie

Alex Papachristidis
Now that's a mouthful. A growing trend is mixing global influences, like combining ikat or suzani with Chinoiserie. Here are some fantastic examples including DIY ideas for that great vintage Chinese Chippendale or rattan chair you snag on Craigslist.
