An Elegant Beach Doormat

Seashell Estate Doormat

This chic doormat is from the new Studio McGee collection for Spring for Target I posted on yesterday. Finding a great doormat is difficult and finding an elegant one for a beach house seems even more challenging. Most are kitschy and tacky.

The Blue and White Entrance

Meg Lonergan - Southern Living

After just redoing my front entrance in blue and white with blue and white tiles, I had to share this intriguing blue and white front entrance. The door is painted in Farrow and Ball Drawing Room Blue. I also love the pagoda style lanterns and the Haint blue ceiling. The floor has a three dimensional illusion that I find a tad disconcerting though. It gives me a bit of vertigo.

The Chinoiserie Entryway

Mary Ellen Becker

Lovely blue and white inspiration in this entryway with quite a collection of blue and white Chinese porcelain. Here it is with the table styled two different ways. I also spy a favorite candle of mine - Diptyque Baies.

The Chinoiserie Entryway

Phillip Thomas - Flower Magazine

This dramatic foyer features Gracie Studios wallpaper, lacquered black ceiling and door, and stunning wood floors. The purple console table is an interesting choice. Purple is pretty much the only color I don't use in my home. I love lavender, but not a dark purple personally. But this pop of purple definitely works here with the green walls.

A Gray Chinoiserie Foyer

New England Home
Gray Chinoiserie wallpaper is such an elegant and sophisticated choice in this traditional foyer. I love the use of a klismos chair - this style works so well with Chinoiserie.

The Tiny Chinoiserie Entryway

Kaylan Kane
Two great examples of how even a small entry can be enhanced with the use of Chinoiserie - in the one above with blue and white Chinese porcelain and in the one below with de Gournay wallpaper.

Unicorns & Chinoiserie

I was looking for inspiration for an entryway and happened upon this amazing entrance hall. The magazine cover above is from The World of Interiors - December 2011. The same entrance hall below is from a French magazine from November of 2011.

Is it just the lighting, or hasn't the paint color changed? At any rate, it's quite fabulous. I love the unicorns, faux, I assume ;-), the chandelier, the pair of Chinoiserie chests, and pretty much everything. So fanciful!

Pink Chinoiserie Foyers

Don't you think there are too many names for foyers? A living room is a living room, a dining room a dining room, a kitchen a kitchen, but a foyer can be called a foyer or an entry or an entryway or an entrance or even an entrance hall if it is large enough.

Today our series on Pink and Valentine's Day continues with beautiful foyers that combine pink and Chinoiserie.

The Small Chinoiserie Entryway

Ashley Whittaker
I am midway through my One Room Challenge laundry room makeover, and I should just be concentrating on it, but my mind it already wandering, thinking about what room in my house I will attack next. I have been thinking that my entryway could use some work. Why are there so many names for it - foyer, entry, entryway, entrance, entrance hall? Mine is definitely not an entrance hall - it is more like a postage stamp, with very high ceilings, but little floor space. These are some entryways with Chinoiserie that are small but loaded with style that are inspiring me. A great mirror and blue and white Chinese porcelain are musts. Stay tuned for this developing story.

More Miles Redd

A decidedly masculine take on Chinoiserie here by Miles Redd in this entryway with a pair of blue and white ginger jars, a blue and white Chinese garden stool, and a black Ming bench juxtaposed against classical elements and a boldly geometric painted floor.

The Chinoiserie Stair Runner

I am taking a pause today from my One Room Challenge Chinoiserie Series to tell you about the next project in my house I am working on. I have decided to tackle my entryway. The painter is coming next week. I have found a stunning pair of Chinoiserie sconces and some wonderful things for the walls. I am now zeroing in on the stair runner. I have been thinking about a sisal stair runner, but have read that dogs can get their nails caught running down the stairs. Isabella has vetoed the idea. This sisal dragon tail stair runner by Barry Dixon with nail head trim is sensational though isn't it? I am also toying with the idea of a black and white Greek key runner like the bottom photo, but sans cat.

The Chinoiserie Entry

Perfect for a small entryway - Chinoiserie on the table and underneath too! I can't get enough of orange and blue.

The Chinoiserie Entryway

Timothy Whealon
Do you call this room an entry, entryway, entrance, entrance hall, or foyer?
And what about coffee table or cocktail table?
Or couch versus sofa?
Curtains or draperies?
I thought about this yesterday when a blogger was talking about a powder bath which I had never heard for powder room.
I wonder if these different terms are regional?

Chinoiserie 2012 - The Entrway

Ruthie Sommers
I hope you are enjoying the new series on Chinoiserie interior design for 2012. I thought we would look next at the entryway/entry/entrance/foyer - there are too many names for this space. Here are two great examples, both with the same fabulous elephant table.
