This wonderful trellis room is in a Palm Beach home once owned by Marjorie Merriweather Post. The manse was built in the 1920s. This was the cereal heiress' first Palm Beach home designed by Marion Sims Wyeth who also designed Post's second now infamous Palm Beach home Mar - A - Lago. The color palette of white with pops of chocolate brown and soft coral pink is so lovely.

The coastal look has definitely taken over interior design by storm. Everything is styled with blue and white, palm trees, wicker and such. No complaints here - I can't get enough. This is Brunschwig & Fils' Majorelle Collection. I don't use a lot of yellow, but I like it in a breakfast room with blue and white - very French Provence. The same with buffalo checks - a little goes a long way, but it's quite charming in blue and white in small doses.

This remains one of my favorite living rooms of all time - Meg Braff's living room in her home in Locust Valley on Long Island in New York. It reminds me of the grand living rooms of Mario Buatta, and indeed the gorgeous Coromandel screen shown below she found at a local estate once designed by Mario Buatta.

This showroom is so pretty - a stunning combination of pink with blue and white Chinese porcelain and tropical foliage. I love a beautiful skirted table and the styling here is so well done. Note the use of a large blue and white ginger jar as a vase like I mentioned in yesterday's post. 

A great skirted table is a wonderful addition to your home - in an entryway, a living room, or a bedroom, especially styled with coffee table books and blue and white Chinese porcelain.

 I have long been a huge fan of DC area based interior designer Kelley Proxmire and this is another stunning example. Sue me, but I will always love a skirted table. I have three in my Florida home. 

This wonderful blue and white chinoiserie example is in Lee Joffa's Blue Willow. And I must mention the glimpse of the navy and white horizontal striped curtains. I will make sure my daughter sees this as inspiration for her new Annapolis nautical chinoiserie home that has a grand two story foyer.

 Such a lovely blue and white room with lots of favorites and a tropical flair. I love the X benches, the palm!!!!, the oversized ginger jar, the pup, the sconces, books, and the Celerie Kemble wicker floor lamp. That floor lamp is wonderful, but at a thousand dollars, I'll wait for the HG version - LOL.

BTW, fish scale patterned ginger jars are timeless, but especially good if you are going for that beachy vibe. The only exception I would take is the skirted table. I absolutely adore a great skirted table, but the glass top, the length, and that trim and trim placement all make me nuts.

 This room is absolute perfection and the epitome of the look I am going for in my home. A blue and white palette, wicker, rattan, coral, hurricanes, bare windows with views of outdoors, and this stunning bullion trimmed tablecloth. I would love to do a blue and white tablecloth like this for my breakfast room table when I feel like a change. These rattan and wicker chairs are to die for. 

Chinoiserie Entertaining

I never mentioned this, but we had a cocktail party/open house scheduled for two weeks ago for local friends and everyone in the community where we live which was obviously canceled. I had been working like crazy getting the house all done for it. I wonder when if ever it will be rescheduled. Check out this wonderful party setup. That blue and white Chinese porcelain vase/ginger jar is absolutely enormous! Boy is that dramatic!

The tablecloth is a bit sketchy, I'm afraid. It is too short and too wrinkled, but I love the centerpiece so much it is worth posting! A pet peeve of mine is tablecloths that do not reach to the floor. I also always use a liner - old blankets work great, so the tablecloth hangs well. The liner need not be as long as the tablecloth - it just needs to overhang the top by a foot or more to drape nicely. Who knows the correct term for a tablecloth liner?

(The answer is a silence cloth)

At any rate, I love the idea of a setup like this in the lanai for entertaining and will be searching for a large blue and white tablecloth for when life returns to normal.

This is the entrance to the interior design office of Erin Gates featured by Ballard Designs. The umbrella stand is actually from Ballard Designs. I love the skirted table with the oversized Greek key trim. Here is another shot below. I have an umbrella stand in my foyer filled with Scalamandre Zebras umbrellas. Do you remember those? Such a shame they no longer make them - they are so chic. I will post a picture when the sun is up. Her umbrella stand looks a little bare.

I am a sucker for a great skirted table, and I especially like the styling of this one with its pair of oversized blue and white ginger jars, a pair of blue and white brushstroke lamps, the gorgeous painted floor, a pair of framed botanicals, coral, a potted orchid, a dramatic mirror, and a fiddle leaf fig. There is a lot of symmetry going on here, but enough asymmetry that to me it is a nice balance. BTW, skirted tables are great for extra storage.

I love those Bunny Williams double gourd brushstroke lamps, but they retail for over $1,000 each - I got this one at HomeGoods for $30.00.

Skirted tables, not long ago considered a bit dated, are everywhere nowadays. The look now is more oversized, tailored, and with great trim. I think a skirted table is one of the best spots for a collection of blue and white Chinese porcelain, or, as here, an eclectic mix that includes Chinoiserie. Here, in addition, the table is flanked by a blue and white Chinese garden stool and a pair of framed Chinoiserie panels. Do you have skirted tables in your home?

I love a beautiful skirted table and what is prettier to style it than a collection of blue and white Chinese porcelain? They are also perfect hiding places for small dogs - two of mine love playing hide and seek under them. This is a very lovely example in this spacious foyer.

A bit of news - I am back to posting starting today (I promise) after a truly awful couple of months. I had complications from eye surgery, my 15 year old 10 pound pup was attacked by an off leash German Shepherd, and I have decided not to move to Florida. I was hours from signing the listing agreement on my house and realized it was a big mistake. Everyone is on the mend.

P.S. I also just realized that I was not getting notices of comments to moderate and have hundreds awaiting moderation. Yikes and sorry!

P.P.S. I think I should clarify that Florida was not the mistake. I never shared on the blog that my husband dropped dead of a heart attack in 2017. He came home saying he was getting a cold and went to lie down and never woke up. I later started dating someone who wanted to move to Florida and it seemed like a nice fresh start for me and I fell in love with Sarasota and the house, but he turned out to be a hot mess. So he is moving into the Sarasota house, thankfully I am not.

A great foyer here - love the skirted table, the Chinese gourd lamp, the blue and white Chinese porcelain, and the Chinese garden stool.
