It reflects my aesthetic, especially here in Florida - an antique black and gold Chinese chest, a pair of vintage calligraphy ginger jars, a vintage Kate Spade handbag filled with sea fans, a collection of conch shells, and a favorite pair of framed botanicals.

A wonderful work/study area has been created in the corner of this room.

The wallpaper is the classic Brunschwig & Fils Bird and Thistle. Although not a chinoiserie wallpaper, it is a very popular classic paper that works beautifully with chinoiserie, like the black Chinese Chippendale chair and blue and white Chinese porcelain on the mantel.

The Chinoiserie Kitchen?

 I love blue and white Chinese porcelain in the kitchen and this is a beautiful kitchen with great examples. I do wonder about the large lamp in the corner. I wonder if this is just for staging? I have seen other examples of lamps in kitchens, but I find this a bit odd visually and wonder if the white shade would not get greasy and soiled, especially so close to the range and hood.

Styling the Bar Cart with Chinoiserie

This lovely bar cart demonstrates beautifully two hot trends in bar cart styling - art and a lamp. The ginger jar art is from Mitchell Black. I especially like the modern approach to framing in acrylic with stainless standoffs. The turquoise lamp is by Times Two Design.

A piece of art raises the eye visually as well as adding personality and interest. This blue ginger jar is a great way to add Chinoiserie. A lamp adds height and functionality.

A New Chinoiserie Treasure

Skulking around one of my favorite consignment stores on Tuesday, I spotted this gorgeous gold leaf Chinoiserie lamp. I knew it to be a reverse on glass painted and decoupage lamp from the 1940s. I scooped it up for $79 and they were so apologetic that it is missing its lamp shade. Look at two similar pairs I found on 1stdibs - one for $3,900 for the pair and the other $2,800. I think mine is by far nicer. It is 22" tall and in perfect condition. I used to decoupage and I know how much work went into this beauty.

For a lampshade, I think I'm going with a shallow drum shade in dupioni silk - a more modern and unexpected pairing that I like. I always find tall thin lamps the hardest to choose shades for. Here are the color choices below with more shots of my lamp.
