A Chic Pink & Blue Palette

Jonathan Adler

My design aesthetic has definitely changed somewhat since living in Florida. I have really embraced white walls. My house is white stucco outside (Sherwin Williams Alabaster) and white walls inside as well (Benjamin Moore Classic Gray), a warm white.

The Chinoiserie Breakfast Room

Jonathan Adler - Elle Decor

Fashion maven Liz Lange's Palm Beach home is one of my absolute favorites, and I have posted on most of the rooms before. You can see it all here in Elle Decor.

The breakfast room is lots of fun too.

The Blue and White Pergola

Mark Sikes - Veranda

This pergola was an addition to Liz Lange's renovation of Grey Gardens in East Hampton, New York. I spent my summers during college in the Hamptons. I never understood why it is spelled Southampton and Westhampton but then spelled East Hampton. A mystery. At any rate, this blue and white patio is so pretty.

Dramatic Blue and White Pagodas

Jonathan Adler - Elle Decor

I have posted before on this jaw dropping foyer in the Palm Beach home of Liz Lange. I think the blue and white Chinese porcelain pagoda really adds so much to the drama. I have found some options in large blue and white pagodas that would make an incredible statement piece or pair in an entryway, a fireplace mantel, or on a dining room sideboard, for example.

The Blue & White Chinoiserie Bedroom

Jonathan Adler - Elle Decor

This is a bedroom with so many ideas to inspire. I love the seating area at the foot of the bed with the pair of wicker elephants as side tables and the pair of side tables as a coffee table. The sofa is divine - stried, tufted, and bullion fringe. The pair of rattan bar carts as bedside tables is another favorite. Perhaps my favorite is the two different Quadrille chinoiserie patterns - Lyford Diamond Bamboo wallpaper and Paradise Background as a headboard. And as an aside, I am so delighted my house came with plantation shutters - simple, classic, private, easy, perfect for a tropical climate.

Grandmillennial and Needlepoint

Tory Burch

With staying at home being the new normal for now and grandmillennial style on the rise, needlepoint is having a real moment again. Needlepoint kits have been selling like hotcakes. I too loved needlepoint and had pillows and rugs (particularly Portugese needlepoint rugs) all over my home. I learned to needlepoint at a wonderful shop in Old Town Alexandria, Virginia. Over the years, they seemed too granny and I did away with most.

What are your thoughts on this resurgence? I like modern needlepoint with a bit of an edge to it. These Tory Burch are great examples. I have a couple of her pillows. Tory's father loved to needlepoint and taught her. I love the mix of Chinoiserie and modern needlepoint.

Jonathan Adler has lots of fun needlepoint as well. And I am still hunting for a vintage needlepoint gaming table cover in pink and green.

This Jonathan Adler needlepoint alligator pillow is a new eBay find of mine and a wink to the alligators in my backyard lake.

The Blue and White Dining Room

Jonathan Adler - ELLE Decor

Here is another lovely room from Liz Lange's wonderful Palm Beach home. The table is skirted with a Kravet fabric with Jonathan Adler fringe topped with an Indian block - printed tablecloth. The chairs are Bungalow 5. The wallpaper is by Peter Durham and the ceiling is tented in a Cole & Son wallpaper. The rug is Serena & Lily.

The sideboard has blue and white Chinese lamps and a collection of blue and white Chinese porcelain. My fave piece is the Mario Lopez Torres vintage wicker monkey chandelier from Circa Who. Torres' pieces have become highly collectable and quite pricey, but so charming! I love that Adler has used things throughout the house that are readily available.

The Blue and White Bedroom

Joantan Adler - ELLE Decor

This master bedroom is in the Palm Beach home I have posted on the last couple of days. This fabulous bedroom features Quadrille Diamond Bamboo wallpaper on the walls and Quadrille Paradise Background behind the canopy bed. Note the wicker bedside tables, bird lamps, and wicker elephant table. The bed is Room & Board, the loveseat Jonathan Adler, the nightstands and quilt Serena & Lily, the tables Bungalow 5.

These vintage wicker elephant tables have become quite collectable - this one is mine.

Palms

Jonathan Adler - ELLE Decor

In the breezeway of this Palm Beach home, Jonathan Adler used canvas palms by The Canvas Nursery set into Frontgate planters. The shell table is from 1st dibs with a blue and white Chinese porcelain vase. Lanterns are from Colleen & Company. The black and white checkerboard floor is hand painted. More from this amazing home tomorrow.

Update - I just discovered that The Canvas Nursery is located about an hour away from me. I think this canvas palm in the apartment of Rebecca de Ravenel may be from them too.

The Blue and White Lanai

My Lanai

Here are a few shots of my lanai featuring my new dragon pool float and my new wicker chaises. I sat out on one of the chaises yesterday afternoon with the two pups and it was wonderful.

Do you see the zebra hide beach towel in the leather holster in the last photo? I had a strange memory when I put it out there. I posted on January 13, 2013 (more than seven years ago) about finding it at Neiman Marcus Last Call reduced from $240 to $40. Zebra hide was all the rage then and this was a fun take on it.

I commented that I loved it, but wasn't sure where I was going to use it since I didn't have a pool and am not a huge beach goer. A gratuitous comment that I deleted chastised me for buying something that was not utilitarian. Hey sweetheart, how much of Chinoiserie or interior design for that matter is about being utilitarian? At any rate Angie, now I have my very own swimming pool and will be drying myself with this very chic towel. How's that for utilitarian?

Alligators in Florida

Jonathan Adler Limited Edition Needlepoint Pillow

Here in Florida, the alligator saw his shadow on Groundhog Day and we get 12 more months of sunshine! I just found this Limited Edition Jonathan Adler needlepoint pillow on eBay and bought it. Super cute. As I write this, three alligators are sunning themselves in my backyard including two babies. One of my favorite things about Florida is all the animals - in my yard I see sandhilll cranes, deer, armadillos, alligators, roseate spoonbills, mallards, egrets, and pelicans. Every evening at sunset like clockwork about 50 great egrets roost in one of our trees. Quite a sight.

I did get this guy at Z Gallerie years back and it is perfect in the Florida house.

Now available at CB2

I have been hunting for this discontinued Jonathan Adler Limited Edition Greek key brass alligator for years. A Chinoiserie alligator!

Chinese Dragon High/Low

For a while I have wanted a white Chinese dragon. The Jonathan Adler version above is kind of fun and mod, but not for $350.00. Not quite my style either. In general I find Jonathan Adler a bit too Miami Beach as opposed to Palm Beach for my own home.

I love the vintage Fitz & Floyd one below, but it's VERY hard to find, especially in mint condition, and always pricey. I think the detail is wonderful.

I just snagged him on Etsy for $50.00. :-)  :-)  :-)  :-)

I think he's going to enjoy living in my Chinoiserie home. I know just the spot for him.

Vintage will continue to be a very hot trend this year and especially vintage Chinoiserie. Stalk eBay, Etsy, thrift stores, and auctions - there are amazing finds out there.

Palm Beach Chic High/Low

This brass limited edition crocodile from Jonathan Adler pictured below was $2,500. I loved it, but not at that price. The other day my daughter and I were shopping at Z Gallerie and I spotted this gold alligator for $49.95 plus 20% off with my Z Gallerie credit card. He is right at home in my living room bookcase. These bookends are also available in silver. At 24 inches, he is very dramatic and very Palm Beach Chic/Hollywood Regency. He would also be fabulous on a cocktail table or a desk.

Chinoiserie (Happy) Chic Inspiration Board

Except for the wallpaper (Scalamandre Zebras), every item in this inspiration board is from JCPenney's new Happy Chic Collection by Jonathan Adler. I would never have guessed I could do a Chinoiserie Chic room from JCPenney!

Chinoiserie (Happy) Chic

Have you seen that Jonathan Adler has a new line for JCPenney called Happy Chic? There are lots of great looking Chinoiserie accessories. I have shown you some of my favorites here. This line is supposed to be affordable glamour for your home, and although I find the accessories well priced, I was shocked by some of the furniture prices like a chair for $1,450, a bed for $1,750, and a sofa for $1,850. The furniture seems more like regular Jonathan Adler store prices. But check out the accessories, like Greek key glasses for $5.00. The foo dog lamp above could be painted, the lampshade changed, or Greek key trim added. The fretwork duvet and Greek key napkins could be monogrammed. High end looks at budget prices. And for those non JCPenney types like me, it is all available online. ;-)
