Happy Birthday Kate

I am off to pick up my darling daughter and best girlfriend Kate to celebrate her birthday today with lots of fun and frivolity aka eating and shopping.

Before I'm off I must of course leave you with your daily dose of Chinoiserie, for a day without Chinoiserie is like a day without sunshine. Isn't that a famous quote?

Aren't these Greek key candles from Z Gallerie available in silver or gold quite chic and they are only $14.95. I love that they have battery candles. I am a huge fan of battery candles - no burning down the house and no smoking up your wallpaper and paint. These would be great on the mantle, sideboard, or bedside table.

Not everyone has dedicated office space at home but this little nook is certainly not short on style. A mini Parsons desk, Frances Elkins loop chair, Audubon flamingo print, and vintage brass Chinoiserie lamp with black shade make for a great work space that could go in a bedroom, living room, or even an entryway. This color combo of pink, black, white, and gold is so fresh, modern, and glamorous too.

Palm Beach Chic High/Low

This brass limited edition crocodile from Jonathan Adler pictured below was $2,500. I loved it, but not at that price. The other day my daughter and I were shopping at Z Gallerie and I spotted this gold alligator for $49.95 plus 20% off with my Z Gallerie credit card. He is right at home in my living room bookcase. These bookends are also available in silver. At 24 inches, he is very dramatic and very Palm Beach Chic/Hollywood Regency. He would also be fabulous on a cocktail table or a desk.

Sunday Style Finds - The Midas Touch

Gold foo dog pair at Z Gallerie for $49.95
I posted a while back about these gold foo dogs below on One Kings Lane for $1,665.00.  I suggested buying Z Gallerie foo dogs in blue for $39.95 and painting them gold. Z Gallerie must be reading CC because they did just that - gold foo dogs which are VERY hard to find. Let's face it, not everyone can use foo dogs in orange or turquoise in their decor. Gold acts as a neutral in virtually any color scheme and adds a touch of Hollywood Regency glamour. Use these beauties on your desk, entryway table, console, sideboard, dresser, coffee table, or mantel. At bottom is a another great find - a gold chevron tray also from Z Gallerie. It's perfect on an entryway table or dresser as an organizer or as a minibar or serving tray.

One Room Challenge: Lighting and Caffeine

I made wonderful progress in my kitchen this week. My electrician installed the Z Gallerie Linear Strand Crystal Chandelier, a fabulous knockoff of the iconic Cellula Chandelier at a fraction of the price. Excuse the ceiling only shot, but I don't want to show you too much of what I've been up to this week! I love the modern/glam/industrial vibe. I decided against the more obvious choice of a faux bamboo chandelier or pagoda lantern.

I also set up my Nespresso coffee bar where I make the most exquisite coffees just like a real barista. No more Starbucks for me. And Starbucks does not have Chinese Chippendale cups and pagoda stirrers. The shots below are of three fabulous kitchens with my chandelier, so you can see what it looks like. Next up, having the window treatment installed (using my all time favorite Chinoiserie fabric) and finishing the gallery wall. You can always find all my One Room Challenge posts by clicking on the ORC button in my sidebar.

The Chinoiserie Dressing Room - Mirrored Furniture

Have you noticed how many of our Chinoiserie dressing rooms have a mirrored piece of furniture? It adds a great pop of Mary McDonald style Hollywood Regency glamour. Z Gallerie has some very chic choices -  I love the chest above that is now half off with its antiqued mirror that has been beveled and engraved with the "x" design and its "x" legs.

The Shaded Chandelier

I posted before on this room by Kendall Wilkinson with its magnificent black shaded chandelier. Z Gallerie has its own very chic and very affordable version below, the Erto Chandelier for $399. It has a transparent mirrored shade over a crystal chandelier. I find Z Gallerie to be a great source for lighting, especially its chandeliers.

The Year of the Elephant

Although officially it is the Chinese Year of the Rabbit, it is clearly the year of the elephant in interior design. They are everywhere-search eBay and Etsy for vintage versions and HomeGoods is loaded with them right now. Below are three I love from Urban Outfitters, Z Gallerie, and iomoi. Stay tuned next week for a week devoted to pink Chinoiserie in honor of Valentine's Day and House Beautiful's pink issue.

Pagodas

Everywhere you turn, interior designers are using pairs of pagodas. Pagodas are a Chinoiserie classic. This one from Z Gallerie measures 13" tall and is made of white ceramic. At $16.95 each, this is a steal. Buy a pair for your dining room sideboard, entryway table, mantel, sofa console table, or anywhere you need a bold statement. I have already ordered a pair for myself.
