Fall Clothes ( My Style)
![]() |
| Frances Valentine |
Fall colors have never been my thing - my wardrobe is basically devoid of beige, brown, burgundy, harvest gold, and olive green. The Frances Valentine Fall Collection is a dream - filled with pink, blue, plaids, metallic gold - all my favorites, but done in fall fabrics like corduroy and velvet and such.

Chinoiserie Chic Footwear

| Ginger Jar Loafers |
I always find it fun when I find a great wardrobe addition that is Chinoiserie Chic. Last year, Jack Rogers came out with velvet ginger jar loafers in navy blue. I got a pair and love them. They are very comfortable, and can be worn indoors as velvet smoking slippers or out as street shoes. They can be dressed up or down, from jeans to dressy dresses.

| Frances Valentine @ The Greenbrier |
The Greenbrier resort in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia is one of my favorite places anywhere. My husband, my daughter, and I would go there for a yearly family vacation and we celebrated our twentieth anniversary there. Dating back to 1778, it has hosted twenty six Presidents, the Duke of Windsor and Wallis Simpson, Prince Rainier and Princess Grace of Monaco, and countless others.

This is a lovely vignette in the living room of a Charleston home. I love the mix of vintage and antique pieces used in a modern way. Let's look more closely at some of the elements.

From My Kitchen Window & Sofas!
This is the view from my kitchen aquarium window I wanted to share with you - a rare overcast day here in almost always sunny Florida, but still stunning. So Old Florida.
The hurricane(s) will apparently be missing here, and I ending up staying in all day and just relaxing - there may have been a Bloody Mary for brunch involved (Back Pocket Provisions - the best Bloody Mary mixers). I am trying to decompress.
I did take some photos despite the lack of sun and lack of art on the walls yet. I mentioned that I am having all the art professionally hung and have been waiting on all the furniture deliveries first. The dining table should arrive shortly.

Velvet & Chinoiserie
![]() |
| Williams Sonoma Home |
I have posted about a zillion times over the years about the delicious combination of velvet and Chinoiserie. Velvet is so luxe, but with today's performance velvets, it is also a practical and durable choice.
So today is delivery of my two velvet sofas from Article. My only complaint so far is that they have instituted a contact free delivery, so they dump it at your front door, take a photo, and take off. Seriously? So I get to drag the boxes into the garage and pay my handyman to come over on Friday to unbox them and bring them in and assemble them and get rid of the boxes. Sorry, but I think delivery people with masks and gloves bringing your furniture in and setting it up would make more sense, but what do I know? If you are in the business of selling and delivering furniture, find a way to make it safe for everyone.
Then, as I mentioned before, Williams Sonoma Home lost my glass tabletop to the Mercer table somehow and it has been reordered, and I ordered some clothes from J. Crew weeks ago and they have been sitting at the Jacksonville, Florida postal facility for 2 weeks.
The USPS isn't the only one with delivery problems.
So, I have been waiting 2 months for the sofas and delivery is not going to be ideal, but hopefully by tomorrow they will be ensconced in my home finally.
Have you been having delivery problems? And do you use the word "sofa" or "couch" - it seems to be regional but I am curious.

HomeGoods Does It Again

| Interlude Home Aubrey Cube Side Table |
I needed a side table for the living room and started looking online to get ideas. On Chairish, I saw this brass cube side table below and thought how perfect it would be and how no way in hell am I paying $2,500 plus shipping. And couldn't they have spent a few minutes to polish it????

| Chairish |
So, I woke up Sunday morning with the feeling that I had to go to HomeGoods and was there at 10 am when the doors opened. And what was waiting for me but this Interlude Home Aubrey Brass Cube for $230. It retails for $1,400. And it was in perfect condition and didn't even need polishing.
It will go next to my gorgeous new navy velvet sofa that I hope will be delivered this week. Do you think there is such a thing as HG ESP?
And no, it doesn't have cracks - that's the floor reflected. My pups are using it as a mirror. It is very highly polished as you can see. I seriously love this piece.
I am hoping for the sofa deliveries this week and to get my handyman back in here so I can then schedule the wallpaper hanger, but I have plenty to keep me busy if not. I am trying to get into the laid back Florida vibe. There is always tomorrow.

The Blue and White Dining Room
![]() |
| Luxe Interiors |
A wonderful modern take on a blue and white Chinoiserie dining room by Nashville interior designer Blaire Murfree. An octagonal dining table is topped with a pleated and trimmed table skirt, mid century modern brass dining chairs are mixed with velvet modern ones, dark blue walls and moldings, a burl wood armoire, and a collection of blue and white ginger jars for an eclectic mix. I spy an acrylic bar cart too - another great touch.
And below are some blue and white shots from my Florida dining room.

Emerald green curtains are wonderful all year long, but are especially lovely for the holidays. Here we have a classic blue and white Chinoiserie toile wallpaper, a blue and white Chinese garden stool, a leopard carpet, and velvet for even more luxe.

The Chinoiserie Living Room
![]() |
| Celerie Kemble - Architectural Digest |
This is one of the prettiest rooms I've seen in a while. Let's look at some of its elements -
*A color palette of pink, coral, blue, gray, black, and green - my favorites
*Lots of pattern
*A zigzag rug
*Velvet
*Chinoiserie wallpaper
*Woodwork painted gloss black
*Gilded brackets with Chinese vases
I love the round settee called a borne settee, a French piece dating back to Napoleonic France. Here is another example below.

Chinoiserie Trends 2017 - Velvet
![]() |
| Robyn Karp |
Velvet and Chinoiserie are a dream combination and will be a hot trend this year. For upholstered pieces, choose a low pile instead of plush for durability. My personal favorite is a velvet bench or stools, although sofas, pillows, and curtains are all great choices.

A lovely Ralph Lauren room with a plush red velvet club chair, ebonized cabinet, and touches of brass. The blue and white Chinese garden stool is a perfect choice, but my favorite piece is the oversized blue and white ginger jar.
