Tropical Chinoiserie

Pinterest

This very pretty vignette combines a blush pink sofa, a pair of seashell mirrors, blue and white Chinese porcelain, orchids, and a giant faux seashell filled with pineapples, lemons, and limes.

From My Kitchen Window & Sofas!

This is the view from my kitchen aquarium window I wanted to share with you - a rare overcast day here in almost always sunny Florida, but still stunning. So Old Florida.

The hurricane(s) will apparently be missing here, and I ending up staying in all day and just relaxing - there may have been a Bloody Mary for brunch involved (Back Pocket Provisions - the best Bloody Mary mixers). I am trying to decompress.

I did take some photos despite the lack of sun and lack of art on the walls yet. I mentioned that I am having all the art professionally hung and have been waiting on all the furniture deliveries first. The dining table should arrive shortly.

Girl Power

Update to yesterday's post on the delivery of my two sofas or couches or davenports. They were supposed to deliver them between 2 pm and 6 pm and the driver was to call me 30 minutes in advance and ring the bell upon arrival. My dogs heard a noise about 2:30 pm and I went to investigate - it was the delivery truck pulling away up the street having left the two sofas outside on the driveway with no phone call and no knock or ring.

So I was outside in shock looking at the two massive boxes - both on their ends - one is over eight feet tall - both blocking my car in the garage and both crazy heavy. I went inside to get shoes and when I came out my next door neighbor and neighbor across the street were both in my driveway ready to help. We three girls moved the boxes into the garage and they are safe until my handyman comes today.

Girl Power! What a great story. Then I went inside and called Article and bitched to high heaven.

BUT, I am especially excited about  the pink velvet sofa - I absolutely love this room. The pink and red and the animals and the whimsy make me so happy.

My Pink and Red Study To Be

Pink and Red Chinoiserie Chic Inspiration Board

Thanks to everyone who played the home edition of the game show Chinoiserie Chic yesterday with "let's pick a dining table for Beth." And the winner is .......

The Williams Sonoma Home Mercer Table. Thank you for all your comments. So many great points were made - especially that it won't clash with my gorgeous stone floors, it is a classic, its clean lines; I am sold. For those who thought it too modern, the original it is based on is from the 1930s.

Yesterday I returned to HomeGoods and found another even more fabulous Mary McDonald piece - a red leather Chaddock House Grant Campaign Chair. I can't find the retail price online but I bet it was/is a fortune. If anyone can find the retail price for me, I would appreciate it. I got it for $230. It is stunning.

Mary McDonald for Chaddock House

Here is it above in white leather - mine is red leather and white painted wood and brass.

I love the combination of red and pink. The inspiration board I did a while back above combines these colors. FYI, I am not doing this for my study - I wish! Below is a shot from my former library/office in Alexandria.

So, a few hints about my study in the new home. A pink velvet couch. The Mary McDonald red leather chair. Favorite art in reds and pinks. Beautiful built-in desks and bookcases. A pink marble coffee table.

The study is going to be a show stopper. Very chic and girly. The Mary McDonald chair yesterday made it all come together. Funny how that happens.

Foo Dogs & More

Alex Papachristidis
So many Chinoiserie favorites here - foo dogs, an elephant, a pagoda lantern, an orchid, a double gourd lamp, and a gilded faux bamboo coffee table. I love the aubergine walls, pink sofa, and leopard pillow. Lots of inspiration here.

Pink Velvet

I love a green velvet sofa, but isn't this pink a delicious alternative?

Trending - Pink Sofas

Lee Radziwill's Paris apartment
Yesterday I posted an inspiration board that featured a pink sofa. Pink sofas are becoming quite mainstream and quite the decorating trend. I have a Pinterest board here on Pink Sofas. I love it above paired with Scalamandre's Chinoise Exotique.

Do you remember years ago when Domino magazine ran this photo of a living room with a pink daybed? People couldn't stop talking about it.

A pink sofa works in any style living room, but is at its best paired with Chinoiserie. A pink sofa is amazing with blue and white Chinese porcelain and black and gold lacquered Chinoiserie furniture. Use it with black and gold to keep it sophisticated and adult. Zebra is a natural with it.

Here are some wonderful examples -
