Instead of a ball, the city of Sarasota drops a giant pineapple every New Year's Eve, a tradition that dates back 26 years. The pineapple has 10,000 orange and green lights. A pineapple is a perfect choice here because it is beachy and tropical and also an international symbol of hospitality.

It's tradition in Ireland on New Year's Eve to open the back door to let the old year out, and after midnight, the front door is opened to let the new year in! I think this year deserves every door, every window, and the garage door to be wide open. I must say that this year can't end soon enough.

One of my favorite cocktails is the classic Champagne Cocktail. It is delicious, so easy to make, and perfect for New Year's Eve however you will be celebrating. You don't even need to stay up until midnight  -  serve it as an aperitif before dinner. I had Champagne Cocktails at my Christmas party and they were a huge hit.
