Even better when it is in blue and white. It would be perfect in a blue and white room or paired with blue and white Chinese porcelain.

 If you love color and Chinoiserie, this entry is one for you. The walls are covered in a blue Phillip Jeffries grasscloth. The stair runner is leopard. A Bernhardt leather bench is upholstered in spring leaf green. An Osborne & Little fabric covers the colorful bolster. A sea urchin sculpture is a fanciful note. Chinoiserie elements include a beautiful pagoda mirror with bells and a black and white dragon lamp whose lampshade echoes the green of the bench.

Interesting Chinoiserie Combinations

The 1920s chair above was from Sherrill Canet's sale on One Kings Lane. It combines black leather and cane with a black lacquered hand painted Chinoiserie motif. The 19th century Jacobean style bench with oak barley-twist legs was on Eric Cohler's One Kings Lane sale. It is newly upholstered using Michael Devine's linen pagoda fabric Garden Folly. Chinoiserie Chic Cheap Continues

I think this fabulous faux bamboo stool looks far more expensive that its price tag and would be great as is or with the cushion recovered in a favorite Chinoiserie fabric.

Chinoiserie Bench Inspiration

Several people have emailed me or commented that they bought the JCP (I can't speak its name) Chinoiserie bench and are planning on glamming it up. Here are some examples of high or higher end Chinoiserie benches that may be a source of inspiration. As for the base, what about Chinese red, black, black and gold, or even black with accents of gold, red, and turquoise? Fabric could run the gamut from a great Chinoiserie toile, a red or coral pink silk damask, raw silk, leopard, leather, even a tufted cushion. One follower of Chinoiserie Chic may try a faux malachite finish-doesn't that sound fabulous? If anyone would like to send photos of their "after" results, I will do a post on any I receive along with my efforts. Sounds fun! What would you do to glam this up? Do tell!

Chinoiserie Bench

This Chase Bench at Pottery Barn is on sale for $129.99. Its notched and scalloped aprons are quite reminiscent of Chinese Chippendale and its high gloss finish in blue, white, or gray is homage to Chinese lacquer. As shown here, it works well as a cocktail table or a bench at the end of a bed. It has gracious and elegant lines at such a great price.
