The Chinoiserie Dining Room

Liz Caan

This is an intriguing dining room by Liz Caan featuring a favorite chinoiserie fabric of mine - Quadrille's Paradise Background in Black on Tint. A farmhouse dining table paired with cane wingback dining chairs is lit by a white and brass ring chandelier. I like the unexpected choice of the pink velvet on the chairs.

An Eclectic Dining Room

Emma Grant - House & Garden UK

I really love this eclectic dining room in the Regent Park London flat of interior designer Emma Grant. The chairs are vintage bamboo. The curved marble topped table is 19th century. This wonderful table reminds me of a grand piano. The high ceilings and millwork are stunning.

Charleston Style

Elly Poston Cooper - Frederic Magazine

This is a lovely vignette in the living room of a Charleston home. I love the mix of vintage and antique pieces used in a modern way. Let's look more closely at some of the elements.

Chinoiserie Style

Samantha Todhunter Design

I had the most wonderful week here in my little paradise and I am looking forward to kicking back this weekend. I hope you are too. Yesterday my gorgeous gold bamboo flatware arrived. Remember when I said it was 46 pieces? My lovely eBay seller had 8 additional teaspoons that she included as a little gift. Today they all get a little bath and polish.

Eclectic Mix

Melissa Morgan

In this entry, a large collection of Goya etchings mix with a dramatic pair of antique blue and white ginger jars. Lots of texture with the exposed brick wall and tile floors. If you hang a collection of art with minimal space in between, visually it becomes one large pice of art.

Palm Beach Reinvented

Les Ensembliers

I adore the whole Palm Beach look, and was completely captivated when I came upon this incredible modern approach to Palm Beach and Chinoiserie. This house has tons of classic Chinoiserie, but it is used it in such a fresh, clean, and modern way. There are so many great ideas here!

Eclectic Chinoiserie

My favorite rooms are always those that have been collected over time, mixing modern with vintage and antique pieces. De riguer for me as well is color, quirkiness, and Chinoiserie, of course.

These rooms in the Savannah home of Robyn Mizrach McClelland from Matchbook magazine are wonderful and perfect examples of what I am talking about. In the room above, I love the wall color, the Barcelona chair, the sheepskin, the gilded mirror, and the gorgeous collection of fan coral mixed with the Chinoiserie pillow, Chinese garden stool, and Imari plates and lamp.

Note the sheepskin draped over the antique chair below as well. Ikea has made a fortune selling those Rens sheepskins and it is a favorite trick of mine as well to keep an antique chair from looking too granny. The coral pink wall color is stunning with the turquoise blue Chinoiserie pieces. I love the stack of magazines topped with a ginger jar and flanked by a pair of red foo dogs in front of the fireplace.

OK you English majors, let's see who can name the guy in the portrait.

Peter Frank's living room has a wonderful and eclectic mix of antique and modern that includes an antique 18th century Korean screen, a sofa slipcovered in vintage French linen sheets, pillows of vintage Japanese textiles, grasscloth covered walls, and a cowhide rug.

Saturday Inspiration-Frank Roop

I love Boston interior designer Frank Roop's wonderfully sophisticated and eclectic mix of antique and modern with a dose of Chinoiserie. Have a lovely Mother's Day weekend.
