Classic Chinoiserie

J. Joern Cunningham

A wonderful work/study area has been created in the corner of this room.

The wallpaper is the classic Brunschwig & Fils Bird and Thistle. Although not a chinoiserie wallpaper, it is a very popular classic paper that works beautifully with chinoiserie, like the black Chinese Chippendale chair and blue and white Chinese porcelain on the mantel.

The Chinoiserie Chic Homework Room

Lori Paranjape

This may be the first time I have ever posted on a homework room and it's wonderful. The Chinese Chippendale chairs are Bungalow 5 and the wallpaper is Lindsay Cowles. It is also perfect for home schooling or virtual learning in these pandemic times.

This could also be reimagined as an office, craft room, sewing room, or whatever you like. And it could be done quite reasonably if desired sourcing the workspaces and open shelving from places like Ikea. Filing cabinets can be found in virtually any color in the rainbow very reasonably as well. Using more sophisticated choices like Chinese Chippendale chairs and abstract wallpaper allows the room to transition from a kid space to an adult space down the road seamlessly.

The Blue and White Dining Room

Kaitlin Smith Interiors

A classic chinoiserie dining room. The fabric is Quadrille's China Seas Seya, a tropical design often used in beach houses. Chinoiserie elements include the navy blue Chinese Chippendale chairs, the navy blue faux bamboo sideboard, the gold faux bamboo frame on the coral art, and the foo dog lamp. I have the same seashell encased hurricanes I got from HomeGoods.

Tropical Vignette

Emily Painter - Southern Living

Lots of great inspiration here to lend a tropical/island/chinoiserie vibe to your home. The wallpaper is Balinese Batik by Quadrille. Note the chic and economical seagrass matting, a bamboo Chinese Chippendale chair, Amanda Lindroth wicker hurricane used as a vase, a pair of trellis lamps, a Chinese console table, and an absolutely amazing seashell mirror.

Saturday Inspiration

Amanda Lindroth

As you may recall, I bought a new pink velvet sofa for my study that I really love. I was thrilled to find a room that uses a pink velvet couch, as it is for sure rare.

This Amanda Lindroth room incorporates a stunning pink velvet corner banquette with bullion fringe, dramatic coral wallpaper, a lucite cocktail table, a Chinese Chippendale chair, a palm frond lighting fixture, bamboo blinds, wicker sconces, and a seagrass rug topped with a striped flatware rug. These rugs made out of seagrass squares are very well priced and a signature item of hers. She loves juxtaposing high and low end pieces. Note the pale green ceiling. The wallpaper is Schumacher's Great Barrier Reef.

I just found a second shot of this room with a vintage Blanc de Chine Chinoiserie monkey and a white faux bamboo sconce. I love this room.

A Chinoiserie dining room by interior designer Frances Elkins and her architect brother David Adler circa 1940. I love the asymmetrical arrangement of the Ming horses.

Yellow

Wiiliam McLure

A lovely vignette with a dolphin console table, Chinese Chippendale chair, blue and white Chinese Garden stool, and modern art. I love the yellow walls and curtains. Yellow is having a moment right now, and I think to works beautifully with Chinoiserie.
