A lovely living room vignette by Celerie Kemble and Caroline Irvin. The walls look white in the photo but are actually covered in Phillip Jeffries Japanese Silky Strings wallcovering. A Gracie Chinoiserie panel is a wonderful focal point. The bar cart is by Celerie Kemble for Maitland - Smith. The Hiver metal chair is by Casamidy and is cushioned in green velvet - Holland & Sherry's Diva. The lamp is by Christopher Spitzmiller. The Celestina coffee table is from Kemble Interiors. The bold Greek key rug is by Kyle Bunting, actually not my favorite element in the room. I prefer rugs to be more subtle, and would prefer a sisal here I think.

I love that the bar cart combines faux bamboo, brass, and leather  - so sophisticated and a subtle Chinoiserie touch.

The Hiver chair by Casamidy is a metal faux bois version of a Louis XIV wing chair. Faux bois combines so well with Chinoiserie.

This is very much what my house was like in the 80s and 90s - a palette of pink and green with lots of florals, chintz, skirted tables, a plethora of pillows, elaborate draperies, pattern on pattern. My taste has changed over time, but I still love lots of this, especially the framed Chinoiserie panels.

We are continuing with our series on how to use Chinoiserie panels in your own home. First we looked at Barrie Benson's modern approach framing traditional Chinoiserie panels in black molding. Next we took a peek at Ellen O'Neill's sepia toned monochromatic apartment. Today we see a wonderful DIY project. Jenny Komenda of Little Green Notebook used plexiglass sheets, Command poster hanging strips, and brass buttons to frame a beautiful, portable, and inexpensive set of Chinoiserie panels for her dining room. I hope you have all checked out the incredible Chinoiserie panels at The Decorator Archives. I am beginning a new series to inspire you on ways to use them in your home. This Barrie Benson dining room featured in Domino shows us a wonderfully modern approach, trimmed out in black molding. Large wallpaper panels like these can be hung directly on the wall as murals or can be mounted on gator foam board so they can move with you. This beautiful panel in the bottom photo is very similar - Royal Garden Cream. It measures 72'' wide by 96" high and is priced at $378.

Continuing with our series on green and Chinoiserie, I find it fascinating how this one framed green Chinoiserie panel elevates a bedroom that I would have found otherwise uninspiring.

Paul Montgomery Studio Pagoda Panels

After about fifty posts on pagodas, you'd think I would be overdosing, but these Pagoda Panels make me weak at the knees. The hand painted on silk panels measure 36 inches by 48 inches and are $325 each or $1,050 for the set of four. These would be exquisite framed in an entryway, dining room, living room, or bedroom. Unlike silk wallpaper, they move with you. For over thirty years, Paul Montgomery Studio has been providing beautiful hand painted panels and wallpaper to the top interior designers including Mary McDonald, William Eubanks, and Michelle Nussbaumer.

A Lot With a Little

I'm sure that everyone has seen the fabulous bar of Jamie Meares of I Suwanee in the premier issue of High Gloss Magazine. With its wonderful use of Scalamandre's Zebra wallpaper, it highlights the way one can use a single roll of amazing wallpaper to great effect. Here are other wonderful ideas from Lonny below-above kitchen cabinets, in a hutch or armoire, framed in a vintage frame, or mounted on boards as art. On Etsy, eBay, and estate sales, one can often find a single vintage or designer roll perfect for one of these applications. Or splurge on one roll of high end paper that will become the focal point of the room.

The Modern Chinoiserie Bedroom

Via Elements at Home, I love this modern take on the Chinoiserie bedroom using framed wallpaper as a headboard and focal point. Quite fabulous.
