Interesting Chinoiserie Combinations
The 1920s chair above was from Sherrill Canet's sale on One Kings Lane. It combines black leather and cane with a black lacquered hand painted Chinoiserie motif. The 19th century Jacobean style bench with oak barley-twist legs was on Eric Cohler's One Kings Lane sale. It is newly upholstered using Michael Devine's linen pagoda fabric Garden Folly. The spaces below by these designers reflect this interesting combining of Chinoiserie with other styles. Only 1 hour left to enter my giveaway here. The winner will be announced at noon.

Chinoiserie Chic Christmas - Charlotte Moss
This photo is of Charlotte Moss' now defunct store in NYC, but it provides inspiration for a wonderful Chinoiserie table setting for the holidays - a red pagoda lantern for a centerpiece, potted red amaryllis, Michael Devine's red and white pagoda fabric "Garden Folly," and blue and white Chinese porcelain. Gump's has a great red pagoda lantern, and these lanterns have also been popping up at HomeGoods in green and in copper.

Thomas Burak Pagoda Bedroom
By Thomas Burak for the Hampton Designer Showhouse several years ago, this Pagoda Bedroom is incredible. The wonderful pagoda drapery fabric is Garden Folly by Michael Devine. I especially like the coral and blue palette, the custom pagoda headboard, and the blue and white Chinese porcelain on brackets on the wall.

Silver Gilded Pagoda Chairs

Stephanie Jones, an extremely talented decorative artist and follower of Chinoiserie Chic, has rescued these wonderful vintage pagoda chairs. By gilding them in silver leaf, she has turned them into works of art. Don't you like the pagoda detailing at the tops of the chairs? I'd love to hear your ideas on fabrics to finish them. What would you use? I'm thinking of Schumacher's Imperial Trellis in Silver, or some vintage silver Fortuny, or perhaps Michael Devine's Fretwork, all shown below. If you are in the Memphis area, you can see the chairs in person at Market Central or view and purchase them on Etsy here. These would be a wonderful addition to any Chinoiserie lover's home. Read more about this artist's work here.

Harrison Howard and Pagoda Fabrics

This is the new cover of St Louis Seasons Magazine by the incredibly talented artist Harrison Howard. I love it. I was recently contacted by a reader in Australia wanting to recreate this look. She and her interior designer have been in search of a blue and white pagoda fabric for the cushions in the pool house. Here were my suggestions to her. My top choice was one of the Quadrille/China Seas fabrics, as they are available in Suncloth which is perfect for this application.

The Chinoiserie Blogger's Retreat
Longtime followers of Chinoiserie Chic may recall that last year, inspired in part by Miles Redd's iconic blue door, I painted my shed door in Farrow & Ball Chinese Blue and found a fabulous antique Tibetan dragon door knocker on eBay. I also spruced up the inside of the shed, painting the ceiling, staining the walls and shelves, hanging a chandelier, and organizing my gardening tools and flower arranging supplies. Here was the reveal. I was recently inspired by a gorgeous shed by interior designer Michael Devine to turn my shed into a spot where I can blog as well. Michael Devine was one of five designers involved in a great project at The Berkshire Botanical Garden called Living Stylishly in Nature: Re-Imagining the Humble Garden Shed. He imagined his shed as a spot where a garden blogger would sit and blog. By relocating a few items from my home, I have a great little spot to escape and blog. Stay tuned here over the next week for a series of posts on Chinoiserie ideas for furnishing your garden including more sheds, outdoor fabrics, furniture, and accessories.
