New Charlotte Moss Book

Charlotte Moss: At Home in Virginia

I am a big Charlotte Moss fan and am thrilled that she has a new book coming out soon. Celebrated interior designer Charlotte Moss now calls Charlottesville, Virginia home. She purchased and renovated a country residence there to serve as her Southern base, and documented her gardens and the property in her book, Charlotte Moss: At Home in Virginia. She has written 10 previous books on style, flowers, and entertaining at home.

Christmas Decorating Favorites

Charlotte Moss

This stunning photo from Charlotte Moss' Manhattan East 70s townhouse decorated for the Christmas holidays remains a favorite. The banister is decorated with a garland with coral and gold ribbons and large pinecones. I love the white floral arrangement on the entryway table. The two column pedestals have grapevine trees in blue and white planters. It looks like they are "decorated" with Spanish moss.

The Chinoiserie Diffuser

NEST New York Indian Jasmine Diffuser

I am a big fan of reed diffusers. They are especially wonderful in the hot summer when the the idea of a candle burning may not seem quite as appealing.

Christmas Decorating Aspirations

Charlotte Moss

I wanted to share this stunning foyer in the Manhattan East 70s townhouse of Charlotte Moss decorated for Christmas. You may recall my previous post on this space decorated for spring with a pair of gorgeous ginger jars and cherry blossoms -

Red, White, & Blue for the Holidays

Saatchi Art

This display of red flowers in blue and white Chinese porcelain ginger jars and vases is wonderful inspiration for the holidays. I am not personally a fan of floral bouquets with mixed flowers and colors. I love using one color for maximum impact and drama - this is a stunning example.

Fall Flower Arranging

Charlotte Moss

I thought it would be fun today to get some inspiration for fall floral arrangements. My favorite approach is to combine fall flowers with a blue and white container.

Pastel Ginger Jars

Charlotte Moss

As you know, ginger jars are typically found in one color like blue on a white base. This picture of the entryway in Charlotte Moss' NYC East 70s townhouse is from New York Social Diary in 2006. I have always admired the grand ginger jars in floral pastels. Multicolor ginger jars like these are quite unique.

These were actually sold at auction by Doyle New York in 2013 when she had a sale of over 400 pieces from her homes in Manhattan, Aspen, and East Hampton.

Christmas This and That & Last Minute Gifts

A Rainy Day @ CCC

It was a rare rainy day here in paradise yesterday. A light lovely rain all afternoon and early evening. It has been almost three months since Hurricane Ian and my garden has completely recovered and is more beautiful than ever. I think there is some truth to coming back stronger after adversity. The palms and plants are proof of that with their gorgeous plush new growth.

Breakfast in Bed

Charlotte Moss

Charlotte Moss posted this wonderful " breakfast in bed," and I'm not sure if I am more obsessed with the vintage wicker breakfast tray or the silver teapot with bamboo handle.

Lexington Garden Design

Charlotte Moss posted this stunning shell assemblage done by Lexington Garden Design. The jardiniere is French that she found on a shopping trip to Paris.

The framed photo is from Vogue 1959 by famed photographer Louise Dahl-Wolfe. It features models on the beach at the Dorado Hotel in Puerto Rico and is entitled - "Models on the Beach." LOL.

Setting The Summer Table

This is such a pretty table setting with lots of wicker and leaf and lettuce ware. The colors are wonderful. I love setting a beautiful table and this is great inspiration.

Charlotte Moss & Summer Style

Charlotte Moss

This is a favorite photo of mine on so many levels. I think she has it all covered except perhaps for the fishing. "History is made by those who break the rules."

I love the pair of Cavalier King Charles Spaniels - I had a Blenheim named Mandy and a Tricolor named Julia. They are such a lovely breed.

Christmas Flower Arranging

Charlotte Moss

This is such pretty inspiration for floral arranging for the holidays. You can use any blue and white porcelain container - I personally use ginger jars a lot since I have them in every size imaginable. Add red roses and fresh cut Christmas greens. These roses are old garden rose style - likely David Austin, but any red roses will of course work. Easy and so pretty for the holidays. And for a little Christmas humor....

Vintage Chinoiserie Inspiration

Architectural Digest

This photo was on the cover of Architectural Digest in November/December 1975. Is it Tony Duquette? I love the parasols, the elephant, the Chinese garden stool, and the rattan chairs. It has quite a modern vibe.

The parasols bring to mind this Charlotte Moss Kips Bay 1995 room with its Chinoiserie parasol bed.

A Chinoiserie Vignette

Charlotte Moss

Many of us were intrigued yesterday by my photo of the living room with lighting fixtures with perplexing pink cords. A commenter mentioned a similar fixture and cord in a Charlotte Moss room. I thought it would be fun to post the room. Here it is - of course done right as one would expect from Charlotte Moss. Another commenter pointed out that the pulley system was used to clean the glass and replace the candle.

Note too the impeccable use of pattern. Most people would not think to put chinoiserie panels on a wallpapered wall, but here it works beautifully. And no white outlet covers here! LOL. I love the fluted blue and white ginger jar atop the etagere.

That upholstered chaise is wonderful - the perfect spot to read or catch a power nap.

Finds & Wishes

Charlotte Moss

I was looking for a Charlotte Moss photo last evening in my files and happened upon this that she sent years back as an invitation to an event. I love the coffee table topped with chinoiserie wallpaper under glass and the selection of books.

I would love a copy of Shocking Life but it is very $$$ in good condition.

Speaking of pink, I received these darling Amanda Lindroth cocktail napkins embroidered with her pink Fiat Jolly.

This is my dream car for Florida in pink with wicker seats but they are quite rare and incredibly expensive. A nice one at auction can be $150,000.

I love fluted blue and white Chinese porcelain and it is difficult to find - I found this pair at HG/Venice yesterday.

.

Above is the Charlotte Moss photo I was searching for with a fluted ginger jar. Such a pretty room.
