Peach

Tiered Ruffle Dress in Peach Chiffon

This is such a pretty dress for an upcoming event like a wedding, baptism, garden party, or other special event that you want something feminine but covered. With two tiers of ruffles along the hem and sleeves, plus a tie at the waist for a touch of structure, this dress is designed to move with you effortlessly. Plus, it's crafted from floaty, subtly sheer chiffon fabric and comes with a slip lining underneath for coverage.

Palm Fronds

Collection Beaded Skirt in Crinkle Chiffon

There's nothing more Florida than its palm trees and this wonderful Collection skirt from J.Crew is covered in beaded palm or fern fronds. This will be great for here in Florida and it's perfect if you have an upcoming beach vacation. And it has an elastic waistband that I love!

Color of the Year - Peach Fuzz

Peach Fuzz

Pantone has chosen Peach Fuzz as its color of the year. Their description of this color strikes me as quite amusing word salad -

"PANTONE 13-1023 Peach Fuzz captures our desire to nurture ourselves and others. It's a velvety gentle peach tone whose all-embracing spirit enriches mind, body, and soul.

In seeking a hue that echoes our innate yearning for closeness and connection, we chose a color radiant with warmth and modern elegance. A shade that resonates with compassion, offers a tactile embrace, and effortlessly bridges the youthful with the timeless."

Peachy Keen

MADRE Dallas

I love this living room with its peach or coral or apricot walls, purple flocked skirted chairs on a yellow and blue rug, a pink tufted ottoman with white fringe trim, a black Klismos coffee table, a pair of canvas palm trees, a blue couch with pink and blue pillows and an antique glass mirror over the fireplace. A very Palm Beach, Hollywood Regency, Mario Buatta vibe. Mario Buatta loved this paint color.

The Question of Peach

Mario Bautta

In spite of my love for color, there are several colors I am not drawn to, and peach is among them. I adore pink, including coral pink, but not peach. There is a reason for this. Peach is an ugly color. And it's not just me. According to House Beautiful, peach is one of the colors to be avoided in your home.

"Even though it was popular in the '60s, today this color quickly dates a house. And when it comes to color psychology, (interior designer Heather) Humphrey says it's uplifting in small ways (like home accessories), but is mood-crushing when it covers too big of a surface."

Of course with Mario Buatta's impeccable eye, he could find the perfect shade of peach like the staircase above. He could find the perfect shade of anything. And so could Jackie. Unfortunately, I am finding that peach homes are so much more common here than pink. Yikes.

Jackie Kennedy

I found a very pretty home in Venice online, but the exterior is peach and every single room in the house is peach. Even the tile in all the bathrooms. Even the tile roof. That's a whole lot of peach going. on. I love a pink stucco home, and a coral pink stucco home, but not a peach stucco home. I know I can paint any house I buy, which I will likely end up doing. But in deeded communities, you end up dealing with the whole dreaded Architectural Review Committee when you want to make any change whatsoever. Changing from peach to pink, OH MY! let's debate this in our committee for 6 months.

Robin Weiss - Traditional Home - Benjamin Moore Ballet Slippers - gorgeous!

Sherwin Williams New Coral - gorgeous!

A Venice home in peach - ghastly

And this house above in peach has been on the market for 405 days in a hot market. So interesting to me how nuanced color is - a slight tweak from coral to peach and it goes from beautiful to ugly.

The Question of Peach

Peach Chinoiserie walls
Aesthetic Oiseau raised an interesting question in her post today using the photo below on the issue of whether the color peach is terminally dated. Doesn't it conjure up visions of the 1980s and Mario Buatta? I guess I have two thoughts on this. First, call it melon or coral or orange instead of peach and it feels instantly modern. Second, Chinoiserie is wonderful in any color, as with these examples I've shown here. Peach is no exception.

Classic Chinoiserie

With today's penchant for a more modern and bold approach to Chinoiserie, we might overlook the fact that Chinoiserie is so completely at home in a more classic setting such as this. I love the peach Chinoiserie wallcovering, the soft palette of cream and peach and rose, the magnificent pagoda mirror, and the ottoman upholstered in a favorite fabric of mine, Scalamandre Falk Manor House. Pillows in this fabric in any of its colorways are always stunning. Shown here is Shrimp on Toast.
