Alabaster eggs, notably crafted in Volterra, Italy, are traditional decorative items often hand-carved from gypsum, with a history rooted in centuries-old Italian artisan techniques. Known for their translucency and soft, stone-veined texture, these eggs became popular as artistic, durable, and sometimes colorful, lasting alternatives to traditional Easter eggs.

These eggs are typically mined from alabaster stone deposits, which are often found at the bottom of lakes or ponds. The material is relatively soft, allowing it to be hand-carved, polished, and frequently dyed to achieve various colors, including white, cream, tan, pink, and gray.

Eggs made from stones like marble and alabaster are tied to traditions of giving, stemming from the custom of gifting decorated, hard-boiled eggs for Easter. They symbolize rebirth and new beginnings.

I removed the blue and white ikat liner and filled it with seashells including lots of pink sea urchins. Next to it is a set of pink linen paddleball cocktail napkins.

If you are looking for last minute inspiration for setting the Easter table, here is a wonderful example. At the grocery store, grab cut and potted flowers - tulips, lilies, hydrangeas, muscari, hyacinth, roses, ranunculus - whatever you like. Use all white for a sophisticated and cohesive look. Pastels also work beautifully for the Easter table.

I saw this on Instagram and think it is a whimsical idea for a centerpiece for the Easter table. It would be perfect for Easter brunch.
