I love this garden vignette with blue and white stripes and a pair of blue and white Chinese porcelain garden stools. I have had Chinese garden stools outside for decades and they do not deteriorate in the least. They were in my garden in Alexandria, Virginia in rain and snow and freezing temps and here in South Florida in scorching sun and tropical storms. I did move them into the garage for cat 5 Hurricane Ian though!

With Spring and warm temperatures on the way, al fresco dining will soon be here as well. It is a good time to snag some of these very special citronella candles. Citronella oil is an essential oil that comes from certain varieties of grass, and it naturally repels a variety of pesky insects, including mosquitoes. When used in candles, citronella helps to keep bugs out of the immediate area, which saves you from ending the night covered in itchy bug bites.

Kips Bay Decorator Show House Palm Beach

 This space is from the just opened Kips Bay Decorator Show House Palm Beach. It caught my eye because this next week I will be putting together my newly tiled lanai. Although my lanai is completely under roof and screened, I have been very sensitive to only using materials designed for the outdoors - resin wicker furniture, Sunbrella fabric, and the like.

I have a pet peeve about designer show house rooms that are completely impractical. Although this space is very pretty, even assuming outdoor fabrics have been used, so much of it is not meant for the outdoors. Especially the wood furniture. With the heavy rains we get and the humidity, this loggia would not look like this in short order. It brings to mind a NSO Decorator Show House in DC years ago where they had put a king sized bed in the living room. A whole new spin on entertaining - LOL.

 Aerin instagrammed about this wicker clutch which is quite chic, but I am dazzled by the pink scallop seashell and seahorse metal garden chairs original to the Estee Lauder Palm Beach estate. I'd love to know more about them. Note that the white cushions are piped in the same soft pink. I decided to be fearless and ordered white cushions for my new lanai furniture. The look is so fresh. No guts no glory.

I Googled them and they are cast aluminum Molla from the 1950s. They are apparently quite collectible and very pricey on 1st dibs and Chairish.

With Memorial Day approaching, many of us are readying our gardens for outdoor fun and al fresco entertaining. I have an entire Pinterest board devoted to the subject of bringing Chinoiserie outdoors. Here is just a sampling.

It is supposed to get to 100 degrees in DC today and I have an outdoor concert - Diana Krall - tonight at Wolf Trap. I think I would rather be on this lovely patio by Philadelphia interior designer Leslie Hayes. I adore the color scheme of blue and white with punches of orange and those fabulous vintage Greek key patio chairs. The cocktail table is pure genius - three blue and white Chinese garden stools topped with glass. This would also work indoors and might also be great with two garden stools and a rectangular piece of glass. I think I would ditch that Liberace candelabra, the ugly potted plant and that crab - this is probably on the Main Line, not the beach, but the rest of it is wonderful.

I am "redecorating" my outdoor living area with lots of blue including blue and white Chinese porcelain. Miles Redd's fabulous outdoor patio in NYC has wonderful blue inspiration. The paint color is Calypso Blue by Benjamin Moore, very similar to the Farrow and Ball Chinese Blue I have used in my space. I really like the white Chinese garden stool, the mirrored coffee table, the garden urn as Champagne bucket, and the black and white floor.
