The Chinoiserie Hallway

A lovely upstairs hallway in the last DC Designer Showcase by DC interior designer Christopher Nutter with hand-painted Chinoiserie walls,  Chinese Chippendale chairs, and lovely touches like the velvet lumbar pillow embellished with Greek key grosgrain ribbon and a Chinese lantern atop a Chinese garden stool.

An aqua and coral palette in this lovely tablescape by Ken Gemes for the porch of the 2013 Hampton Designer Showhouse.

I was able to find the bamboo lanterns in bronze, jade, turquoise, and white on sale at Frontgate here. I know that it was available before in this "melon" color because it was a pick of mine on one of my Houzz Ideabooks, but this color must be sold out or discontinued.

Orange Chinoiserie Dining Room

I was excited to see an article in Traditional Home online on Showhouse Rooms in Orange. My dining room is wallpapered in a wonderful orange Chinoiserie paper, but on tap soon is a refresh of some other elements in the room. I fell in love with this dining room by Alexandria, Virginia interior designer Shazalynn Cavin-Winfrey for the D.C. Design Showhouse.

This is a wonderful example of how to update a formal room to make it more fresh and modern. Note the breakfront painted coral, the corner banquette in salmon velvet, the ceiling wallpapered in marble, the pagodas flanking the fireplace, and the dining room chair frames painted blue. The Chinoiserie fabric on the dining chairs is Cowtan & Tout La Pagode Chine. For more details, here is the link.

Blue and White

I found this vignette on Pinterest and fell in love with the use of the tie dyed blue and white fabric on the traditional fretwork chair with the blue and white dragon pillow. It led me to the entire room below curated by Jennifer McConnell of Pearson for the 2012 Hamptons Designer Showhouse. The dragon fabric is Mandarin Dragons by Design Legacy.

Meg Braff Showhouse

I received an email from Meg Braff yesterday with a reminder about the apartment she did for the Lenox Hill Hospital Showhouse at the W Residences. Her inspiration was the Hollywood mid century modern style of James Mont where lucite, lacquer, brass, animal prints, and Chinoiserie abounds. Here is a little tour - I hope some of you have been or will be in New York to see it in person. Two weeks are left.

Hot Pink & Dogs

When I was working on yesterday's post on ginger jars, I came across these photos in my files. They are of the living room that Parker Kennedy did for last year's Atlanta Show House and the room is quite fabulous. I love the color palette of hot pink, navy, and white. Check out the hot pink ceiling and the pink juju hat! I've never done a ceiling this bold. What do you think?

Do you see the large whippet on the console? I saw one of these the other day in my travels in a consignment shop and have been debating buying it ever since. It's like the ones I have pictured below, and tassels on the collar are pink. I might have to go back today and get it. It's so quintessentially Palm Beach Chic and I adore dogs.

 Over a month ago, Andrea of the fabulous blog The Glam Pad discovered a historic Chinoiserie house on the market for the first time in 30 years near where she lives in Coral Gables, Florida. She invited me to do a series of guest posts on how I would decorate this Chinoiserie home.

In week one, I renovated the entryway. In week two, I transformed the dining room. Week three was the kitchen and week four, the porch. Today is the guest bedroom. Check back next week, as I share my inspiration for the home office.
