Fabulous Chinoiserie Chic Deal

Fortessa Royal Pacific Bamboo Flatware

It will surprise absolutely nobody that my favorite flatware is bamboo. I have a vintage set in gold for dinner parties, faux bamboo in black and in natural for picnics and tailgating, and real bamboo for al fresco dining at CCC. But my favorite for everyday use is my stainless steel set of Fortessa Royal Pacific Bamboo Flatware. It is very elegant but dishwasher safe.

Blue Bamboo Flatware

For years I have thought to myself, "Why hasn't someone come out with blue bamboo flatware?" Well, someone finally did.

Setting the Chinoiserie Table - Bamboo Flatware

Tahiti by Buccellati Bamboo & Silver Flatware

I was asked by a follower about heirloom quality bamboo flatware. This example above is certainly the quintessential example.

The Tahiti cutlery was born in the 1960s on original drawings by Gianmaria Buccellati and upon specific request of an influential Italian industrialist, who ordered it for his yacht. This flatware in silver and bamboo evokes the Polynesian natural wonders and presents a combination of high elegance and eco-sustainability. The name of the collection is tightly linked to the memory of Paul Gauguin, who lived in Tahiti during the last period of his life and who was very much inspired by the island for his paintings portraying the women of Tahiti and its wonderful landscapes. The house of Buccellati is one of the world's premier silversmiths.

Tropical Styling

Danielle Rollins

I love this bar styling - a palm tray and using palm fronds in a silver ice bucket. With all this craziness, drinking seems like a good idea - LOL. BTW, it's amazing how long cut fronds from my garden last - as long as four weeks. I love the look and they are free and last so much longer than flowers.

Does anyone have a source for coral handled flatware? Horchow used to sell a darling set, but no longer. I'm looking for something fun and casual and well priced.

A Budget Friendly Chinoiserie Dining Room

This Chinoiserie dining room from House Beautiful is lovely and quite achievable. Much of this could be copied on a budget. Trellis wallpaper, white Chinese Chippendale chairs, straw placemats, bamboo flatware, and a potted palm. The chandelier is quite fabulous, but a faux bamboo chandelier would work well too.

Setting the Chinoiserie Table-Cheap & Chic Flatware

The bamboo flatware above featured in Joe Nye's book Flair is beautiful but pricey, at $150.00 a place setting by Juliska. Here are some great alternatives at less than $10.00 a place setting. For your information, the flatware that looks like real bamboo is generally faux and dishwasher safe. I own the black bamboo from Caspari and the natural bamboo from Horchow and love them. Flatware need not be silver or expensive to be Chinoiserie Chic!
