The Chinoiserie Closet

 I would love to switch out the fluorescent fixture in my walk-in closet for a fabulous chinoiserie one. Check out this stunning vintage wicker pagoda above. 

But my closet has ten foot ceilings and is about twelve feet long and I don't want to sacrifice good lighting. There are so many gorgeous vintage and new options out there. Any advice? 

Coral Pink Palm Chandelier DIY Help

 On Tuesday I posted about using a coral pink chandelier in the vestibule of my new home. One of my loveliest commenters has commented a couple of times suggesting I snag this amazing Pottery Barn Kids Lilly Pulitzer Palm Chandelier shown below they have on special for $119.00!!!! and free shipping.

On Tuesday she commented again and suggested I grab it and paint it coral pink. I immediately thought of this Amanda Lindroth room.

Not sure if I will leave it gold or paint it pink, or whether I will use it in the vestibule or elsewhere, but she is absolutely correct that at this price I have to grab it. It might be amazing in coral pink, don't you think?

OK, guys. It is shipped and en route. I have never painted a lighting fixture. But this sounds fun. So, assume I want to paint this baby glossy coral pink. Spray? Brush? Prime? Which paint? Rustoleum? My Perfect Color? Coral pink paint color recommendation? Paint everything even the electrical cord? I AM NOT DISASSEMBLING IT. I know about using painters tape to cover where the lightbulbs go.

 Tell me what to do, and I will do it. My handyman Steve is hanging everything in a couple of weeks. Give me your guidance and I will get it done. I love the Amanda Lindroth example above FYI. Thank you for any tips. And I am using tiny globe bulbs. Tomorrow I will give you my two cents on dealing with ceiling fans.

New Home Ideas

This is the Veranda of Amanda Lindroth's home in the Bahamas. I am wild about the wicker palm chandelier - I am on the hunt for it for my new home. Any ideas? I suspect it is a Mario Lopez Torres which are very $$$$$$ that has been painted white.

Second, the floors are coral stone. This would be perfect for my lanai floor. They don't get slippery or hot and have such an organic and understated and timeless look. I am looking for a source nearby to get a sample, but they are apparently fairly easily sourced in Florida. Have any of you used coral stone? So pretty.

This post is a real favorite of mine. Some of you may recall that in my home in Alexandria, Virginia, I had converted a bedroom into a walk-in closet and it was pink - I color matched the walls to a Thomas Pink shopping bag.

Alas, I unfortunately do not have a spare room to convert here in Florida, but I do have a walk-in closet with ten foot ceilings and built-ins that works just fine.

I am loving the idea of a gallery wall in my closet. The Danielle Rollins dressing room is absolutely stunning. I love it all - the coral pink, the Chinese Chippendale casegoods turned into a wardrobe, the slipper chair, the gallery wall, and that monogrammed tote. The straw tote is from Nantucket Monogram & Design, but I don't see it on their website - I hope it is still available.

Danielle color matched the walls to a sadly now discontinued Estee Lauder lipstick "Princess Grace," a gorgeous coral pink. I wish I had purchased a bunch when they came out with it. It is a great color!

In the shots below you can see a vintage wicker and faux bamboo pagoda chandelier, a Chinese garden stool, and a pair of mirrored chests placed back to back topped with plywood, Chinoiserie fabric, and glass.

 My goal this weekend is a gallery wall in my closet and styling it. Stay tuned. This has really motivated me. Mine will be far less luxe, but this is wonderful inspiration.

Linda from My Crafty Home Life was not only the fearless leader and intrepid organizer of the One Room Challenge, she transformed her master bedroom into a Chinoiserie Chic paradise. You must check out her reveal post to see all the details including Ikea hack built-ins with coral pink painted backs and brass hardware, ginger jar prints from The Pink Pagoda, vintage faux bamboo mirrors painted coral pink, Ikea hack bedside chests in mint green with gold O'verlays, a fabulous collection of vintage Chinoiserie paint by numbers turned into a gallery wall, and a pineapple chandelier that went from creepy Colonial to Palm Beach chic. Isn't this fabulous!

One Room Challenge Chinoiserie Series

Fellow DC blogger Lindsay from The Pursuit of Style took a very beige and boring stairwell in her rental and turned it into Palm Beach Chinoiserie Chic with paint, a fabulous vintage palm frond chandelier, and a gallery wall. I love the chandelier - those light bulbs are a great touch and the gallery wall with two of the prints framed in gold bamboo - my "go to" choice for framing also. The last painting is an abstract that will be added soon - you know how I love abstract art with Chinoiserie. Isn't the wall color similar to the mint green I used in my kitchen? Saturday Inspiration - The Chinoiserie Kitchen

This Wednesday will be the reveal on the One Room Challenge of my Chinoiserie Chic kitchen. I included this kitchen and breakfast room by Melissa Rufty in yesterday's post, but I love this so much I wanted to revisit it. The white cabinets, dark wood floors, marble countertops, and pale blue/gray walls are all gorgeous. But check out those counters stools with the pink croc leather with nailhead trim, the Parsons chairs slipcovered in a wonderful Chinoiserie fabric (anyone know what it is?), and that fabulous chandelier. Pink, high end Chinoiserie fabrics, and a glam chandelier are three elements I have included in my kitchen too.

One Room Challenge: Lighting and Caffeine

I made wonderful progress in my kitchen this week. My electrician installed the Z Gallerie Linear Strand Crystal Chandelier, a fabulous knockoff of the iconic Cellula Chandelier at a fraction of the price. Excuse the ceiling only shot, but I don't want to show you too much of what I've been up to this week! I love the modern/glam/industrial vibe. I decided against the more obvious choice of a faux bamboo chandelier or pagoda lantern.

I also set up my Nespresso coffee bar where I make the most exquisite coffees just like a real barista. No more Starbucks for me. And Starbucks does not have Chinese Chippendale cups and pagoda stirrers. The shots below are of three fabulous kitchens with my chandelier, so you can see what it looks like. Next up, having the window treatment installed (using my all time favorite Chinoiserie fabric) and finishing the gallery wall.
