Schumacher has come out with a collection of indoor/outdoor fabrics that are very Hollywood Regency and Chinoiserie Chic. These would be stunning for a porch, lanai, patio, or indoors for care free fabrics.

I love the pair of Cavalier King Charles Spaniels - I had a Blenheim named Mandy and a Tricolor named Julia. They are such a lovely breed.

I had to share this fabulous chinoiserie filled apartment in Foggy Bottom in DC. Foggy Bottom is home to the Watergate, the Kennedy Center, the State Department, and George Washington University. I went to GW for law school, my late husband was living in Foggy Bottom when we met and until we married, and we were members of the Kennedy Center for decades.

If you are like me (and I'm guessing since you follow CC you are), and love color, pattern, and chinoiserie and tropical prints, you need to know about Printfresh, a favorite of mine. Their clothing line is the perfect sleepwear and loungewear, and I am hoping they expand into ready to wear - I wear one of their nightgowns as a sundress. Choose from robes, nightgowns, nightshirts, short sleep sets, long sleep sets, separates - whatever you style is. It is all incredibly comfortable. I especially love their nightshirts, robes, and short sleep sets.

So almost 40 years ago! This room is timeless IMHO. A blue and white Chinese garden stool, blue and white Chinese porcelain, wicker, and a classic chintz which is having a resurgence. The only tip off is the chairs matching the sofa.

But chintz is having a moment again with Grandmillennials - the key is to use just a bit - don't go full Mario Buatta. Pointers - use a classic chintz - high end, glazed is gorgeous, think Brunschwig & Fils, Colefax and Fowler, Lee Joffa in peonies, roses, hollyhocks, and the like. Use it as an accent - don't go all matchy matchy. A beautiful pair of chintz pillows is a great example.

I still have a wicker chaise and table skirt in a gorgeous Mario Buatta chintz that I plan to use in one of the guest bedrooms. An aside, I would love to see the return of aubergine - does anyone remember Mario Buatta's aubergine lacquered walls? Wonderful!

The Chinoiserie Dining Room

This pretty dining room features Brunschwig & Fils' lovely Chinoiserie fabric Lodi Garden Print on the chairs that works so well with the robin's egg blue walls, ceiling, and window treatments. As I look closely, I am not crazy about a few details - the table skirt - it looks unlined and a little cheap, the table topper - likewise, the length of the window treatments - too short, and the height of the chandelier - too high.

Repeating a Fabric

I was interested to see this room by Robert Brown in Adamsleigh Show House using Clarence House The Vase throughout the space.

While repeating a fabric was once the look, the modern approach is using a pattern once in a room. This does seem to be a somewhat dated look to me. What do you think?

Blue and White & The Chinoiserie Chic Dog

Here is a new photo of our Japanese Chin Margot, who is now 4 months old. She is sitting on her favorite piece of furniture, a miniature chaise that was once in my daughter Kate's nursery. It is upholstered in a vintage Brunschwig & Fils fabric called "English Leopard" circa 1974 from their Winterthur Collection. I have paired it with a navy Greek key pillow.

Understated Chinoiserie

I have wonderful new clients whose home I am working on right now. Their taste combines English and Chinoiserie with a very understated and elegant palette of grays and taupes and blues.

One thing we are considering is where to use this wonderful linen toile from Bennison called Chinese Toile. It is the epitome of the feel we are trying to create, I think. Here it is below on the right in the dining room of Nancy Meyers of Something's Gotta Give fame.

Here it is again used in a blue and white bedroom.

Our topic today is the wonderful pairing of a chair with a grand Chinoiserie fabric. As you can see here, an oversized Chinoiserie fabric is a magical combination with any chair - large, small, new, vintage, antique, and any style as well. I especially adore a Bergere chair done up in Chinoiserie.
