A Chinoiserie Dining Room/It's A Small World

| Shazalynn Cavin-Winfrey - Traditional Home |
On Sunday I posted on the color coral. Earlier last week, I posted on a stunning lacquered emerald green solarium/bar in Greenwich, Connecticut by interior designer Shazalynn Cavin-Winfrey.
Her unique name rang a bell, so I researched on CC, and low and behold, I had posted about this dining room by this same interior designer in 2014. Note the coral breakfront. And what's really interesting is that she is based in Alexandria, Virginia (where I lived for 30 years) and this was from a D.C. show house that I attended.
And there is more. We were neighbors - she and her family lived in my old neighborhood of Belle Haven just up the street from us and her business is based in nearby (5 minutes away) Old Town where my late husband's law firm was located. Small world. BTW, I was very interested in her unique first name - she attributes it to being the child of hippie parents. Funny.

Palm Beach Neutrals
![]() |
| Courtney Giles Interiors |
This lovely bedroom is from the newly opened Kips Bay Show House Palm Beach. Although we generally associate Palm Beach with lots of vibrant color, this is a wonderful example of embracing that style with a neutral palette. The palm wallpaper is Schumacher Blair House Palm. I especially love the scalloped linens. I spot a Chinese Chippendale chair and an orchid on the side wall.

Progress Report

| Draza Stamenich - DC Design House 2009 |
Yesterday could not have gone better.
1. The plumber arrived right on time and installed the new hot water heater in the garage. He commented that it is the nicest garage he has ever seen. I will have to post pictures but it is really nice. It was just painted by the seller in crisp white with a gray floor, built in white cabinets, and white plantation shutters on the window. It is absolutely pristine. My car will be very happy in there.
2. My painters arrived and we had a great time playing with the Samplize paint color samples. They were unaware of Samplize and very impressed. I will take photos today and reveal the winners.
3. Two trips with the car loaded with breakables. My garage looks like a blue and white Chinese porcelain store. Or the home of a ginger jar hoarder.
4. I realized today I need a lighting fixture for the laundry room. As you might recall, I have enough of the Brunschwig& Fils "Ironing Bored" left over from my previous laundry room to have it wallpapered. Yeah!!!!!!
Above is the inspiration board for my Alexandria, Virginia laundry room which was massive. It was about 225 square feet. Mine here is small, but I will make it really pretty.

The photo up top is from the DC Design House back in 2009. Excuse the grainy photo. It was the smallest room in the house and my favorite. I had never before seen a laundry room with such attention to detail - Gracie wallpaper, a Neirmann Weeks chandelier, garden antiques, aviary wire on the cabinets, a travertine counter. This will serve as inspiration for my laundry room.
I especially like the lantern lighting fixture. I'm thinking this would be nice. Navy and pewter. An open cage design.

Green and White Chinoiserie
![]() |
| Traditional Home |
Here is a pretty alternative to blue and white from the Savannah Showhouse by interior designer Melanie Turner - a collection of green and white Chinese porcelain with pops of orange and metallic and a piece of modern art by Sally King Benedict. The gilt console is 18th century. Here are more shots of this master bedroom below. It's my daughter's birthday today - Happy Birthday Kate!

Miles Redd & Chinoiserie
![]() |
| Miles Redd - Traditional Home |
In this living room for the show house at Adamsleigh in North Carolina, Miles Redd combines Chinoiserie furniture from Century with Chinoiserie panels. Note the chairs with peacock fabric, the pagoda chairs, the pagoda cabinets, and the many ginger jars. Scalloped pagoda cornices add even more drama to the oversized windows. A custom blue paint was used on the woodwork.

Blue and White
I found this vignette on Pinterest and fell in love with the use of the tie dyed blue and white fabric on the traditional fretwork chair with the blue and white dragon pillow. It led me to the entire room below curated by Jennifer McConnell of Pearson for the 2012 Hamptons Designer Showhouse. The dragon fabric is Mandarin Dragons by Design Legacy.

Chinoiserie Outdoor Living
The weather in DC has been surprisingly delightful so far this summer and it has me thinking of all the outdoor projects I have ignored to date. This Master Terrace by Parker Kennedy was created for the 2014 Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Decorators' Showhouse and sponsored by Scalamandre. Now this is what my terrace should look like! I love all the vintage pieces they incorporated and especially the singerie blanc de Chine monkeys.

Hot Pink & Dogs
When I was working on yesterday's post on ginger jars, I came across these photos in my files. They are of the living room that Parker Kennedy did for last year's Atlanta Show House and the room is quite fabulous. I love the color palette of hot pink, navy, and white. Check out the hot pink ceiling and the pink juju hat! I've never done a ceiling this bold. What do you think?
Do you see the large whippet on the console? I saw one of these the other day in my travels in a consignment shop and have been debating buying it ever since. It's like the ones I have pictured below, and tassels on the collar are pink. I might have to go back today and get it. It's so quintessentially Palm Beach Chic and I adore dogs.
