Progress Report

Draza Stamenich - DC Design House 2009

Yesterday could not have gone better.

1. The plumber arrived right on time and installed the new hot water heater in the garage. He commented that it is the nicest garage he has ever seen. I will have to post pictures but it is really nice. It was just painted by the seller in crisp white with a gray floor, built in white cabinets, and white plantation shutters on the window. It is absolutely pristine. My car will be very happy in there.

2. My painters arrived and we had a great time playing with the Samplize paint color samples. They were unaware of Samplize and very impressed. I will take photos today and reveal the winners.

3. Two trips with the car loaded with breakables. My garage looks like a blue and white Chinese porcelain store. Or the home of a ginger jar hoarder.

4. I realized today I need a lighting fixture for the laundry room. As you might recall, I have enough of the Brunschwig& Fils "Ironing Bored" left over from my previous laundry room to have it wallpapered. Yeah!!!!!!

Above is the inspiration board for my Alexandria, Virginia laundry room which was massive. It was about 225 square feet. Mine here is small, but I will make it really pretty.

The photo up top is from the DC Design House back in 2009. Excuse the grainy photo. It was the smallest room in the house and my favorite. I had never before seen a laundry room with such attention to detail - Gracie wallpaper, a Neirmann Weeks chandelier, garden antiques, aviary wire on the cabinets, a travertine counter. This will serve as inspiration for my laundry room.

I especially like the lantern lighting fixture. I'm thinking this would be nice. Navy and pewter. An open cage design.

Well, I am off for the first run of breakables over to the house and to see what the painters are up to. Have a great day everyone. I will post tomorrow on the Dyson vacuum and the lobster rope door mat. And I need some sleep. All this adrenaline has me going 24/7.

  1. I forgot to comment yesterday that the Tineco Pure S1 is a remarkable cordless stick vac. It actually has a lighted head that changes color when the area is clean. It costs about $350. I am no naturally inclined cleaner and I love it!

    1. The new house has very high end plantation shutters on every single window including the garage. I posted a picture today but will take another of my blue and white in the garage after more trips.

  4. I hope you get some rest but totally understand your excitement! I must tell you, it has a ripple effect and I have felt much more energized reading about all you are experiencing. I am right there with you! It's such a gift you are giving others.

The laundry room is one room in this house I haven't tackled. I had plans, but they may not reach fruition at this point. One thing we will do before we leave is change out the light fixture. Right now it has no light because I made my husband take down an obnoxious fluorescent light. I've had a temporary light in there until I found a new one, but then covid hit. So, I may just paint one of the boob lights we took out of the bedrooms and throw it up. Not as elegant as what you have planned, but it would be an improvement!

  6. Great news about your first day. Quick question...is the wallpaper you are using in your laundry room still available? It’s darling. You’ve got wonderful taste!

    1. Thanks. Unfortunately long discontinued - it was a favorite in Palm Beach mansions. I snagged a mother lode on eBay years ago.

  8. An auspicious beginning!Maybe when you have time, you could repost your laundry room you created in your Virginia home. My favorite of all your rooms. Watch out when the adrenaline wears out. Don't want you face planting somewhere!!! So happy for you.

  9. Just that wallpaper and lantern you've got planned is amazing enough. I.LOVE.It! Anything else you put in there is going to be the cherry on top. Makes all the difference in the world when you know what you want and know how to achieve it. It's tons of fun then, not too many highs can match it...at least in my experience. I am so enjoying my riding along with you.

    1. Thank you. So happy I have some of that wallpaper to use in the new house. I will have the wallpaper over in the next couple of weeks to see the two jobs.

  11. It was a great show house - a former nunnery right down the street from where I lived in Georgetown.
