I posted yesterday on the 2023 Kips Bay Show House Palm Beach that opens today. Having attended decorator show houses for decades ( I love them), I always enjoy seeing what the talented landscape designers do with the landscaping and gardens of the home.

I've decided to turn my attention to a bit more landscaping. This time of year is great for planting in South Florida as the rainy season is starting and the rain helps the plants to settle in. I'll be focusing on the front of the property. The rainy season here equates to the chance of a late afternoon downpour.

This week has been a busy one indeed. My daughter had the inspection on their new home in Annapolis and their existing home just went on the market today. I have been assisting long distance. And the rejuvenation of my Florida garden begins today, so I have been knee deep in garden design. The existing garden has too many overgrown and dated shrubs. I am imagining a more dramatic, modern, hurricane friendly, and exotic space with lots of blue and white Chinese garden stools and potted blue and white Chinese fishbowls (that can be moved into the garage when required).

This palm above is on my wish list. I'm hoping I can find one locally. Just perfect for my Chinoiserie Chic home I think.

Gardening Help

Robin Weiss - Traditional Home

 

I am about to redo the plantings in the front yard of my Venice home. This beautiful Palm Beach home of interior designer Robin Weiss is my inspiration. It has the feel of English boxwoods in the foreground but they are not well suited for South Florida. I would love assistance on what these shrubs are. My guess is that they are Japanese Boxwood. I am thinking of using either Japanese/Korean Boxwood or Dwarf Yaupon Holly (Schillings Holly) or Eugenia shaped in balls.

In the rear I like the idea of Coontie Palms or something similar. Any help from Southern and Florida gardeners would be very much appreciated.
