From the Traditional Home Southern Style Now Showhouse in New Orleans. This room is confusing to me, but quite lovely. Is it a dining room or a study or both? It was described as the dining room in the show house, so how do you eat? On top of the books? I remember a NSO show house in D.C. years ago where there was a massive bed in the living room. That was really odd. It's sad that so many show houses have shuttered for good. I used to love attending them.

What are those lamps doing on the table and do they light? Are they cordless/battery? I believe someone asked the designer about the lamps and he said he drilled holes in the table. But that means holes in the tablecloth and rug as well. Seriously? I am very detail oriented - things like that puzzle/annoy me.

I guess it's the move to Florida, but I am really focusing now on Florida/Palm Beach/Tropical elements in rooms. Here, we have a beautiful piece of coral on the books and a Sago palm in the urn on the left. The Sago palm is ideal for containers indoors or out.

I do like this room - the Chinese Chippendale chairs, the pair of blue and white ginger jars, yellow walls (an underused color IMO), a wonderful chandelier, and a great piece of art.  But those lamps still bug me. Do you remember the Miles Redd dining room turned study in his mother's home where he did the same thing with a  pair of lamps?

The Chinese double gourd lamp has become an icon of interior design. They are now available in a marbleized version that I adore! One of these is $185.95 for a set of two. The other is $2,665 for one or $5,330 for a pair. Can you guess which is which?

For those of you who are loyal followers of CC, you know the answer is that the budget friendly pair is the blue and white. They were on Joss & Main a couple of weeks ago and I posted on them and I am still getting emails from people who missed the sale trying to track them down. Well, they are back! Find them here.

The red and white pair are by Christopher Spitzmiller. I'm sorry, they are beautiful, but I can't imagine spending 5 grand on a pair of lamps even if I had that kind of money.

The Joss & Main are also available in black and white. BTW, they are the same size with the Joss & Main measuring 32" and the Spitzmiller 30.5". These are an amazing High/Low, don't you agree?

I love this Bunny Williams brushstroke double gourd lamp above, but it retails for $950.00! The one below reminds me of it, and it is sold in pairs for $184.95. It is available right now on Joss & Main. It also comes in black, red, gray, and blue - this is the navy. A pair would be wonderful on a console table or on bedside tables.

Two of my favorite iconic Scalamandre designs have been interpreted in hand painted lamps, licensed by Scalamandre, and the result is truly stunning. "Chinoise Exotique" is inspired by Scalamandre's iconic wallpaper and fabric pattern. A charming tableau of stylized blossoms, vines, figures and animals. The classic square gourd shape porcelain lamp is accented with a square Lucite base, crystal ball finial, and brass hardware.

Chinoiserie Lamps at HomeGoods

If you love blue and white Chinese porcelain lamps, you need to hit your local HomeGoods stores. They have been getting in tons of Ralph Lauren lamps at prices starting at $49.99 for the smaller ones, with most about $99.99. Great deals for high end designer lamps. Just yesterday I saw a large dragon, small dragon, wicker, turquoise pineapple, and blue and white florals and other traditional Chinese designs.

Three came home with me. That makes ten in my house at last count. I might need to form a local chapter of Ralph Lauren Lamps @ HomeGoods Addicts Anonymous. My daughter snapped the photo above at the brand new HomeGoods in Georgetown DC last night. The $169.99 is the highest price I have seen but likely reflects the very pricey Georgetown location. The prices do vary on the same lamp depending on the store. And just yesterday I saw that another HomeGoods is opening five minutes from my house. That will make six HomeGoods stores near me. Wow! The lamp just below is one of yesterday's acquisitions.

Trending - The Big Chinoiserie Lamp

In November, I did a post for House Beautiful on the subject of Glazed Ceramic Lamps that was linked to their December/January issue. The focus was statement lamps like Christopher Spitzmiller's iconic gourd lamps, and how they have become focal points in decorating a room.

What I am also seeing more and more is the size of these lamps increasing dramatically in size. Here is a gallery of some favorite oversized Chinoiserie lamps in rooms - in the past, these would have been deemed far too big. I have always gone larger with lampshades and with hats, preferring the drama of the larger scale, so I welcome this look in lamps. What do you think?
