In The Pink

Scalamandre x Mae

I adore pink and wear it all the time. My favorite combination is pink and black - very Chanel and reminds me of my ballet days. This latest collaboration between Scalamandre and MAE follows the very popular collaboration that featured Scalamandre Zebras. This collection features Leaping Cheetah in ultra chic pink pieces.

Iconic Scalamandre in the Limelight

Scalamandre Chinoise Exotique Lamp
Two of my favorite iconic Scalamandre designs have been interpreted in hand painted lamps, licensed by Scalamandre, and the result is truly stunning. "Chinoise Exotique" is inspired by Scalamandre's iconic wallpaper and fabric pattern. A charming tableau of stylized blossoms, vines, figures and animals. The classic square gourd shape porcelain lamp is accented with a square Lucite base, crystal ball finial, and brass hardware.

Inspired by Scalamandre's classic ikat pattern "Greystone Indigo," this lamp is hand painted on the front and back with the ikat pattern. This narrow 3" depth scaled body is accented with gloss crackled ceramic side panels. There is a lucite base and glass finial. This lamp would be the perfect choice for any lover of blue and white. This is a show stopper!

Sunday Inspiration - Zebras

Danika's Zebras at Spoonflower

Scalamandre's Zebras
Yes, we all love Scalamandre's Zebras wallpaper and fabric but some of us have mortgages and college tuitions, right? Enter the uber-talented Danika of O'verlays and Gorgeous Shiny Things. You can get her take on frollicking zebras starting at $17.50 a yard for fabric and $60 a roll for wallpaper at her Spoonflower store here. (Scalamandre runs about $150 a yard or roll). Lots more great Chinoiserie designs too.

This week we will be wrapping up our Top Ten Chinoiserie Trends for 2014 series.

Scalamandre Chinoiserie China

This is too good to be true - Scalamandre china at $70 a four piece place setting. Adapted from the 18th-century artwork of Jean Baptiste Pillemont, a charming scene composed of oversized flowers, fretwork fences, pagodas and parasols decorates this fine dining collection from Scalamandre by Lenox.

The colors are wonderful - amethyst (purple), sienna (orange), teal (blue), and chocolate (brown). If you are not in the market for a new set of china, buy the dinner plates or accent plates by themselves to mix and match with your existing white china.

This china would be amazing in my own dining room. I think the purple is calling my name. Here is my dining room wallpaper. I love mixing orange and purple with Chinoiserie - so modern.

Check out what I found this week at my thrift store - a set of four brand new Dransfield and Ross Greek key place mats with their original $90 a piece price tags. I got them for $12 for the set of 4!!!

Sunday Inspiration - The Chinoiserie Bedroom

This bedroom by Melissa Rufty (or rather a portion of the bedroom - I would love to see it all!) is so chic and fun. I love the Scalamandre Balwin Bamboo wallpaper, the tufted headboard, the white linens with black Greek key fretwork, the red and white striped bolster and roman shade, and the pelmet and curtains in Perroquet by Nina Campbell.

My Favorite Chinoiserie Bathroom

This wonderful bathroom by Mary Watkins Wood remains my favorite because of all the Chinoiserie elements she combines while still maintaining a fresh and modern look. I love the use of Scalamandre Feng Shui in fuchsia on the chair, the pair of red lacquer coat trees for towels and robes, the white garden stool, and the antique Chinese rug. I like her advice to use a rug instead of a bath mat in the bathroom. "It was made to withstand a lot more wear than the occasional wet foot."

More Scalamandre Chi'En Dragon

Keith Carroll uses Scalamandre Chi'En Dragon in Coral on Cream, a pagoda centerpiece, and blanc de Chine monkeys for his table at the Metropolitan Club.

Scalamandre Chi'En Dragon

Decorators Backroom, one of my favorite Etsy shops, has two yards of this stunning and very expensive Chinoiserie fabric Scalamandre Chi'En Dragon available for $80 in Lacquer Red and Green on Taupe.

Scalamandre

This Scalamandre ad that recently ran in Veranda is too cute and includes many of my favorites-wallpaper is Baldwin Bamboo on the bottom and Chinoise Exotique on the top, fabric on the chair pillow is Shanghai, and fabrics pinned to the bulletin board are Chi'En Dragon and Leopardo.

Classic Chinoiserie

With today's penchant for a more modern and bold approach to Chinoiserie, we might overlook the fact that Chinoiserie is so completely at home in a more classic setting such as this. I love the peach Chinoiserie wallcovering, the soft palette of cream and peach and rose, the magnificent pagoda mirror, and the ottoman upholstered in a favorite fabric of mine, Scalamandre Falk Manor House. Pillows in this fabric in any of its colorways are always stunning. Shown here is Shrimp on Toast.

Chinese Chippendale Pagoda Chair

I have long been smitten with Baker's Queene Anne Arm Chair pictured below, but it is terribly pricey. This gorgeous Chinese Chippendale Pagoda Chair available on Etsy from LIVvintage gives me the same feel, but is even more Chinoiserie and a fraction of the price at $225. Imagine it reupholstered in a Chinoiserie damask like Scalmandre Feng Shui shown below. See my post on this fabric here. What fabric would you use? (Update-it has sold too!)
