It is 72 degrees here in South Florida - we finally have a cold front. Of course, it will be up to the mid eighties this afternoon. I have started a little fall decorating here at CCC.

Mackenzie-Childs has lots of wonderful pumpkins for fall and Halloween decorating in lots of colors, designs, and sizes. I especially like this blue and white striped one. I never tire of blue and white stripes.

September is right around the corner and I love decorating for fall. These wicker pumpkins are so pretty. Perfect for fall and Halloween. I think the loop detailing gives them a very high end look reminiscent of Juliska's wicker pieces.

I have always thought acorns are so beautiful. Alas, I have not had acorns on my live oaks - I know that acorn production decreases dramatically on older oak trees. If I did, I would collect some and fill a beautiful blue and white Chinese bowl with them.

I can't wait until real pumpkins start arriving here. In DC they arrived around Labor Day, but here in Florida is always later for some reason. I will start today putting out my pumpkin decor. I have a nice collection of wicker and raffia pumpkins. I love this blue and white striped one. Very chic.

I bought a couple of these darling squash yesterday at Publix for Halloween decorating for my kitchen and then to use in a new recipe. When I got home and Googled them, I discovered that it is a Japanese squash. 

The squat, green kabocha—the Japanese word for squash—has a nutty, earthy flavor with just a touch of sweetness. This Japanese squash has a squatty shape, green rind, and orange flesh. The dense flesh and sweet flavor makes it well-suited for mashing and using in baked goods. It is also commonly used in soups, and is primarily grown and eaten in Japan, South Korea, Thailand, China, and the United States.

Yesterday I went to Whole Foods in search of wonderful heirloom pumpkins and boy did I hit pay dirt. It was like a tony non-messy adult pumpkin patch - thankfully, as I had just come from the hairdresser. They had the most gorgeous heirloom pumpkins from a farm in Illinois. My Norwegian grandmother Ada grew up on a farm in Illinois. There I was buying organic heirloom pumpkins from Illinois in South Florida - wild!
