A Breath of Spring

Faux Maple Tree

I was in Target yesterday and their garden shop was open here with lots of beautiful faux trees. I have added several artificial trees here at CCC and absolutely love them. Faux trees are like artificial Christmas trees - both have come so far in recent years and look so real! If you are in the throws of winter where you live, what better way to add a breath of spring to your home?

The Blue and White Dining Room

Phoebe Howard

This blue and white dining room is so pretty and so achievable. I love the striped rug - I would use a polypropylene indoor/outdoor rug so there is no worry about spills. I have two Annie Selke Dash & Albert ones and love that they can be hosed down outside to clean. They are indestructible.

The Blue and White Powder Room

Eileen Lane Design

Do you call this space a powder room, a powder bath, a half bath, or a guest bath? I wonder if this difference in terminology is regional? I have always used the term powder room. I love this one whatever you call it. The palm wallpaper and rattan mirror are wonderful. I am also a fan of the baskets with toilet paper and guest towels. Very nice touches for your guests.

Gorgeous Faux Willow Tree

Mark Sikes

I saw this 7' Willow Tree below online a while back and it was sold out everywhere. It reminds me of the Mark Sikes tree above. I looked high and low and finally found one. It is in my living room in the World Market basket I posted on and I LOVE it.

Baskets for Indoor Trees High/Low

Mark D. Sikes

My two favorite containers for real or faux trees in the home are blue and white Chinese fishbowls and nice big chunky handled baskets. Click here for my previous post on sourcing blue and white Chinese porcelain planters. The photo above is an excellent example of the basket style I like topped with sheet moss.

The Perfect Fiddle Leaf Fig Tree

Kendall Simmons Interiors

The fiddle leaf fig tree is a fabulous plant that adds so much drama to any room. It is a spectacular plant. Unfortunately, it is notoriously finicky to grow indoors and will frankly drive you crazy trying to care for it. Luckily, there are some great faux versions out there, and I have found the perfect one.

Easy Chinoiserie Christmas Decorating

Danielle Rollins

I am keeping it simple and elegant this year with my Christmas decorating. Here is a chic and easy idea - pop a poinsettia into a basket to top a blue and white Chinese garden stool. This would look great with any color poinsettia - I've seen lovely white ones and pink ones here too if red is not your thing.

I even have a couple of baskets with chalkboard labels like this. I really love the combination of wicker and chinoiserie - it is such a classic and works anywhere. (Who else noticed that the basket is not centered? LOL)

The New Blue and White

Jenny Keenan - Coastal Living

No, I don't think anything will ever replace blue and white. It is a classic that has stood the test of time. But lately I am increasingly drawn to celadon. Especially in tropical locales, look how nicely it plays with wicker, seashells, palm fronds, and the popular braided seagrass basket. I have found a couple pieces lately at HomeGoods to add to my collection. It would also be lovely with a collection of sea glass.

Here is more inspiration.

Traditional Home

Mallory Mathison - Atlanta Homes & Lifestyles

I found two gorgeous gardenia bushes yesterday at Lowe's including a rare one, and am looking forward to getting them planted behind the lanai today. I hope everyone has a wonderful Sunday.

This Basket is Having a Moment

Caroline Gidiere

This basket is having a moment for sure, but I think it's becoming a classic for beach house decor and beyond. I am thinking of getting one myself.

It can be used for anything you choose and never looks more chic to me than under a console table.

Use it for beach towels, media components, books, laundry, toys, blankets, shoes, pillows, in a mud room, dog toys - the list is endless. It is wonderful to add an organic and textural element to a spot. I love the way it pairs with Chinoiserie and with blue and white. Here are interior designers going mad over this "it" basket.

BTW, it looks like the Beachcomber from Pottery Barn. Other versions I have seen all look to me like cheap knockoffs.

A follower just emailed me that some of the baskets are from Mainly Baskets Home and are slightly different from the PB. They both come in various shapes and sizes.

Scale

Fun House Furnishings

Scale always fascinates me in interior design. I am sure many of you will hate this as out of proportion. Others will see it as fun and modern. This massive basket with a tiny oomph console.

I love playing with scale in interior design. It always involves a bit of risk and daring. Sometimes it works; sometimes it doesn't.

Do you like this?

I think most people would prefer this Summer Thornton design below, including me.

Summer Thornton

The baskets are virtually identical and the lamps and Chinoiserie wallpaper are quite similar. The styling of the Summer Thornton is so much nicer though. In the Fun House Furnishings, the lamp cords are visible (at least hide them for the photo shoot), and I don't like that unfortunate little plant and those two white sticks - are those candlesticks without candles? I also think those lamps are anorexic and sort of creepy they are so tall (too tall) and skinny.

Baskets & Chinoiserie

Summer Thornton - House Beautiful

Baskets are a great way to add a causal note, as well as functionality,  to a Chinoiserie entryway with lots of blue and white Chinese porcelain.
