 Here is inspiration for setting the Thanksgiving table for those of us whose color palette is not in the autumnal browns and golds and for a more tropical rather than cozy vibe for warmer climates. I love the aqua and coral colors. Note the faux bamboo hurricanes and black faux bamboo flatware. And as you can see, this is set outdoors which with the pandemic is a safer option for entertaining if one has that option. I know here lots of folks are planning on a beach Thanksgiving meal.

An aqua and coral palette in this lovely tablescape by Ken Gemes for the porch of the 2013 Hampton Designer Showhouse.

I was able to find the bamboo lanterns in bronze, jade, turquoise, and white on sale at Frontgate here. I know that it was available before in this "melon" color because it was a pick of mine on one of my Houzz Ideabooks, but this color must be sold out or discontinued.

The Pink Chinoiserie Desk

I mentioned in my post on Thursday that when I redo my office, I am thinking about painting my Chinese Chippendale desk pink like Julia's (from Pawleys Island Posh) wonderful coral pink desk in her One Room Challenge. I originally got the idea of a pink desk from this Mary McDonald office above.

Mary McDonald says that she brazenly painted the Chinese desk hot pink and gave it a European style studded linen velvet upholstered top. The room also includes aqua Chinese garden stools and antique turquoise Chinese lamps, as well as lots of Chinese porcelain pieces and foo dogs on the desk. l love the pink and chocolate brown color combination with pops of blue.

Two Great Chinoiserie Finds This Week

Fitz & Floyd Elephants

I have now officially overdosed on the recent weather here is D.C. An earthquake, a hurricane, and now the rainiest September in history. Oh well. These two finds this week are enough to lift my spirits. I bought these wonderful vintage Fitz & Floyd candlesticks on Etsy. Aren't they precious? The scroll table in aqua blue from Legend of Asia I snagged on One Kings Lane a couple days ago. It is just what I have been looking for to put at the end of the bed in The Pagoda Bedroom. Interior designers love this style table for its clean and modern yet classic look.

From Elle Decor, I love the coral screen and sofa with the aqua blue Chinoiserie lamps paired with black lacquer drum shades.

The Blue and White Chinoiserie Beach Bedroom

Here is a wonderful palette of blue, aqua, and white with chocolate brown Chinoiserie headboards. I love combining blue and brown. This Island headboard by red egg is a favorite of mine-it is available in twin, queen, and king sizes in Chocolate Brown, Eucalyptus Green, Poppy Orange, Periwinkle Purple, Morning Glory Blue, Petunia Pink, Jonquil Yellow, and Magnolia White.

Barry Dixon created this exquisite living room-my favorite for a beach house-using Quadrille Paradise Background in Turquoise for pillows and draperies. I love the palette of pale aqua and turquoise that extends into the kitchen. The daybed is a wonderful choice-it works for an extra guest and is such a chic look.

A Chinoiserie Bedroom

This is a truly fabulous Chinoiserie bedroom by Domicile Interior Design. I am crazy about the orange wall, the framed Chinoiserie panels, the ikat pillows, the blue foo dogs, the faux bamboo bench, and those incredible side tables.

Barry Dixon & Lyford Print

With summer here soon, I had to show you this island home near Palm Beach by Virginia interior designer Barry Dixon. This Florida home was originally featured in the June 2008 Metropolitan Home RIP. I of course love the Chinoiserie master bedroom with its exuberant use of China Seas for Quadrille Lyford Print. I also think the color palette in the home of pale aquas, sea greens, and washed turquoises is quite lovely. I was especially taken with this quote by Mr. Dixon-"You're never left with the monotony of middle-of-the-road-purchases if you buy high and low." Amen.

A Pastel Look at the Chinese Chippendale Chair

With spring and Easter upon us, I thought it would be fun to look at how pretty the Chinese Chippendale chair looks in pastel paint or fabric. The first three pictures are from my home.

A Modern Approach to Chinoiserie

Here is a wonderful modern take on Chinoiserie that would work anywhere from a city apartment, to a cottage retreat, to a beach house. I love the restrained yet dramatic palette of white, black, pink, and aqua blue. The dining room is fabulous with its white lacquered stools, Lucite table, and black table settings. Notice the large black mirror leaning against the Chinoiserie papered wall. The white walls and floors provide a dramatic background. In another shot of the dining room below you will see how the pink in the magnolia branches is again picked up in the pink floor cushions. The bedroom is lovely as well with its Chinoiserie wallpaper, French bed, and again the palette of white, here dark floors, pink, and aqua blue.
