Mario Buatta & An Eye for Color

 I came across these pictures from the Sotheby's auction of the estate of Mario Buatta. Mario was of course a great lover of chinoiserie, but what caught my eye about these are the gorgeous colors. These cabbage boxes are 19th century Thuringian. I wish they had lined up the veins on all of them though - LOL. They did better below.

 Are you getting ready for the colors of autumn? My mother died a long time ago, but today is her birthday. She adored the earth tones - the colors of fall - orange, gold, brown, and burgundy. She dressed in them and decorated her home in them. Do you decorate with these colors? I am the opposite, gravitating to all the pastels.

Saturday Inspiration - Manuel Canovas Bengale

I am wild about pink and orange used together and my favorite example of this beautiful combination is the classic and iconic Bengale in Paprika by Manuel Canovas. Here it is in all sorts of applications big and small and all fabulous! BTW, the styling above is fantastic with the Chinese Chippendale chairs in pink ikat, the vintage lucite bar cart, the pineapple, and very good taste in Champagne.

 I have always loved combining stripes and Chinoiserie, but lately the notion of buffalo checks and Chinoiserie has been on my mind. It is fresh, graphic, modern, yet traditional. Interior designers love it too, as you can see.

The holiday table need not be in traditional colors like red and green. Manuel Canovas' Bengale in Paprika in orange and pink, a wonderful color combination, would be a fabulous backdrop for your holiday table.

I love this chair idea. The back of the chair is done in the iconic Pagoda by Manuel Canovas through Cowtan & Tout. Keep your eyes out on eBay or Etsy for a sample size which would be just perfect for this. Fabulous paired with the blue fabric.
