Thanksgiving Traditions

John Derian Turkey Puzzle

It’s time for a new Thanksgiving tradition. After the pies, after the contented sighs, keep the reverence for the day going with this singularly stunning puzzle. Straight from the collection of John Derian, the artist and designer whose work with printed images of the past transports the viewer to another time and place, Crested Turkey is a nineteenth-century chromolithographic portrait that confirms the wonder and wisdom behind Benjamin Franklin’s famous remark that in comparison with the bald eagle, the wild turkey is a much more respectable and courageous creature. And so handsome too!

The Thanksgiving Centerpiece

John Derian Beaded Turkey Pillow

The "it" piece from the John Derian Target Thanksgiving collaboration last year was this wonderful beaded turkey above. Lots of people bought it to be their Thanksgiving table centerpiece. It is a really stunning piece and very collectible.

Santa Claus (& John Derian) Coming to Town

John Derian for Target

Decoupage master John Derian has been doing wonderful collaborations with Target since 2008. You may recall recent Halloween and Thanksgiving collabs that were fantastic. His latest one for the upcoming holidays may be my favorite ever. It is like walking into his fabulous shop in NOHO in NYC but at much nicer prices. It launches overnight tonight at 3 a.m. EDT. From pillows to lamps to linens to ornaments and more, this launch is amazing. And many many items are under $15.

There are pieces for Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas (and Christmas gift giving too). Not sure if you need to be up at 3 a.m. or not - in the past, yes as some items sold out. But I highly recommend shopping online with free shipping for $35 orders or more as opposed to lining up on Sunday morning in person with people grabbing everything to resell online. Also, some items are only sold online. Save this post to quickly go to the items you want when you do shop.

A Chinoiserie Thanksgiving

Turkey Famille Rose

I have posted before on the beautiful Famille Rose Collection at Williams Sonoma. For Thanksgiving, they have added some fabulous turkey pieces. A wonderful way to set the Thanksgiving table with chinoiserie.

Feathered Fun

Deco Floral Feather Mod Mary Dress

I love feathers in my home and wardrobe. In my home I have two Juju hats that are traditional African feathered hats from Cameroon. I also have several feather pillows in my bedroom and dressing room. I have feather trimmed pieces in my closet that I love. Feathers are whimsical and fun and glamorous.

New John Derian Thanksgiving for Target

John Derian Thanksgiving Collection

Just launched - the newest John Derian Thanksgiving Collection for Target. His collection last year was wildly popular.

Designer John Derian has a passion for vintage illustration, drawn to 18th and 19th century imagery of the natural world. Collaborating with Target in a limited-time collection, these gorgeous and giftable pieces are sure to find a favored place at any holiday celebration.

John Derian is an American decoupage artist and designer living in New York City whose aesthetic encapsulates a curious mix of natural oddities, antiques and eccentricities.

Many pieces from his Thanksgiving Collection from last year are highly collectible selling on eBay for huge prices. I am especially obsessed with the pillows and the cabbage ware pieces - so fun and fabulous.

John Derian for Target

Decoupage artist, atelier owner, and tastemaker John Derian has a line of Thanksgiving and autumn items that launches today during the wee hours of the morning. Target for some reason loves to launch designer lines between midnight and 5 a.m. to ruin everyone's sleep. It just launched at 3 a.m.

Halloween at CCC

CCC

I love decorating for Halloween. I received my John Derian black weeping willow from Target yesterday and it joins my Target skull pineapples. So fun!

My raffia pumpkins from Target -

A glimpse of the breakfast room -

I love my blue pumpkin - I would like a couple more, but this is the only one that I have found so far. I got it a couple of weeks ago and there is zero deterioration to date. One trick I read to prevent rotting is to clean it with a Clorox or antibacterial wipe which I didn't have, so I washed it with soap and water and rubbed it down with hand sanitizer - LOL. True story.

Saturday Inspiration

Mary McDonald For Chaddock

I had to laugh - in my feed just now on Pinterest was this Georgia Star Back carved chair at Chairish for $2,967 plus $399 shipping that I got at HomeGoods in perfect condition for $59.99 and stuck it in my Audi shipping. So for my totally obnoxious Anonymous commenter that complains about all the knock off junk at HomeGoods, what is Mary McDonald a knock off of?

And here it is happily ensconced in my master bedroom.

CCC

If any of you are John Derian fans (the decoupage guru), his Halloween collection for Target launched at 3 am and I was online ordering things in the middle of the night. A great piece that my daughter grabbed is this bones table that he designed to looked like faux bamboo and you get up close and realize it is bones.

I have a thing for black plants and ordered this black faux weeping willow -

Some items sell out fast with these Target designer launches, so Kate and I always order when the sales start which is always in the middle of the night.

We all love Scalamandre Zebras and I just saw these pajamas sets in this zebra pattern and lots more colors and patterns that would be great for sleep and lounging around the house. I like it in this pink colorway. Especially during this pandemic, it's great to have chic lounging outfits.

Happy Saturday - my handyman is due over shortly.

Palms and Seashells

Amanda Lindroth - House Beautiful

Recently I have posted about incorporating seashells and palm fronds in my Florida home. Here is more inspiration by interior designer Amanda Lindroth. And I spy a pair of John Derian vases in the armoire - I have the same one in my wet bar. The potted orchids add Chinoiserie style - I have orchids everywhere in the Florida house - and I love them surrounding the jacuzzi in the master bath and the spa in the lanai. I recommend Trader Joe's for orchids - my go-to place.

News from Chinoiserie Chic

Three little news tidbits from CC to start the week. First, many of you have requested receiving Chinoiserie Chic by email, and I have now had that added to my sidebar. By signing up, you will receive my new posts by email. Second, you will also see added to my sidebar a link to my Ideabooks on Houzz. Each month I will add a new Ideabook with my favorite Chinoiserie products out there in the marketplace. Third, I know how fun it is to see photos of each other's homes, so each Friday my post will be Friday From My Chinoiserie Home, showing you different rooms and vignettes from my house. Today we start with a new addition to my Pagoda Bedroom. I just got this darling little vintage faux bamboo side table at Grant K. Gibson's Tastemaker Tag Sale on One Kings Lane. I have added a lamp from my daughter's nursery, a Charlotte Moss silver pagoda topped candle, iomoi matches, a Chinoiserie John Derian button mirror, a vintage seashell clock, a Jeanne Reed ginger jar I just found at a thrift store for $12, and a copy of House Beautiful's new book Blue (that you need to get).

Chinoiserie Library

Several of my blogger friends have done wonderful recent posts on libraries, books, and reading nooks. Visit Sanity Fair, Style Carrot, and Ticklish from a Distance for their posts. These are three of my daily read blogs-check them out if you haven't already.  I found this photo in my archives. I love the freestanding open Chinoiserie black lacquer bookcase. The black really pops against the yellow walls. I really like the staging of the bookcase as well with the tole palm topiaries, John Derian decoupage plates, and Chinoiserie objets d'art. What a beautiful room and a beautiful way to turn some of your beloved books into the focal point of a room. I would love this bookcase for all my interior design, gardening, and art books.
