Blue and White

Antonino Buzzetta
A stunning dining room in the NYC apartment of Shameless actress Emmy Rossum. The walls are Farrow & Ball Ammonite. The table is Baker and the Bernhardt chairs are upholstered in Cowtan & Tout. The photographs are by Irving Penn. A blue and white Chinese vase graces the table and a large blue and white Chinese planter from Horchow is a focal point. A lovely example of a dining room that is classic and traditional but fresh and modern.

My Christmas Decorating-Sitting Room

Having just completed my Christmas decorating, I will take you all on a tour of my home to show you my decorations. I hope you will find inspiration. The first room is my little sitting room that I use for reading. Some favorite things include the vintage Mario Buatta fabric "Evelyn" on the table skirt and chaise, my new vintage Baker Chinoiserie cocktail table, a great silk pagoda pillow I won on a giveaway at Odi et Amo, and plaid silk taffeta London shades. For the holidays, I decorate the gilt Chelsea House pagoda mirror with a velvet ribbon, bring out a pretty felt flower stocking, and best of all, decorate a tabletop tree. The tree is covered in antique millinery fruits and vintage fruit ornaments. I made the millinery fruits into ornaments by wrapping the stems in beautiful ribbons. Aren't the colors wonderful! The base is a yellow metal tole Chinoiserie container. Click on the photos to enlarge and enjoy!

My Weekend Chinoiserie Find

This weekend I found this very elegant vintage 1960s Baker Chinoiserie coffee table in Georgetown. It is molded brass and glass with a Chinese Chippendale style turned wood octagonal base. The wood base has a tortoiseshell finish on faux bamboo. The same Baker coffee table but with a pie crust top and mahogany finish is currently for sale on 1st dibs for $2475 here. (I snagged it for $325.00) In the picture above it is happily ensconced in my little sun room. Click on the picture to enlarge. The picture just below is it at the store. The last picture is its cousin at 1st dibs. As the description on 1st dibs says, it is absolutely splendid.

Baker Studio

If you love the quality and elegance of Baker Furniture but not the price, their new Baker Studio line is deserving of your attention. This well edited collection has pieces that are modern, stylish, and sophisticated, many with a Chinoiserie appeal. I have shown you a few of my favorites here. Most are available in several finishes which include black lacquer, red lacquer, ivory lacquer, glazes, and many of the storage pieces have coral lacquer interiors. These pieces are well priced to begin with, and Baker's fall sale is on now through October 19th.
