Wicker & Chinoiserie

Amanda Lindroth

Wicker is not just having "a moment" - it is hotter than hot in interior design with absolutely no signs of slowing down. And it combines so incredibly well with chinoiserie. Here are my top unique wicker pieces that I absolutely love. Some are indeed chinoiserie wicker!

  1. I'v always thought that if one does not live in the tropics, wicker accessories are for Summer. Do you agree?

    1. Of course not. That went out with no white after Labor Day. Open any shelter magazine and you will see homes all over the country with wicker/rattan/seagrass/jute furniture, rugs, and accessories that are clearly not seasonal. It's a timeless look.

  2. I love wicker as well but I’ve never quite understood the difference between wicker and rattan.

    1. Rattan is a material, wicker is a style of weave. But today, the terms tend to be used interchangeably.

  3. I love it all. Puts me in a good mood to be surrounded by it.I never grow tired of it the way I have with some “conventional “ pieces.

    1. I agree, I am not a fan of "generic" in interior design or fashion.

  4. Although it's no where near Easter time or spring, I saw some charming rattan bunnies at mrsalice.com, along with many other wicker and rattan items and home accessories.

    1. For some reason, they keep all their Easter decor on their website and identify it as such.

  5. Having spent time in the orient, one longed for velvet sofas and heavy Chinese vases, oriental rugs and a hidden wicker something here and there. Of course outside rattan furniture was a must. Beth, you have a penchant for resurrecting memories. Some better than others. I'll be looking for some wicker somethings now that the season is over and I hope to find good stuff at the second hand markets. Scottish wool blankets (rugs) are calling. That first morning chill in the air sets my heart racing. Enjoy your weekend.

    1. No chill in the morning here or Scottish wool blankets and I don't miss them at all. Endless summer here and I love it. But wicker and rattan look great everywhere.

  6. I have a whole basement of wicker from my parents' estate that is screaming for some loving attention and repair. I'm in the Alexandria area -- can you recommend someone in the area? By the way, your "vlog" is simply dreamy ...

    1. Sorry - gone from Alexandria and no longer in the loop.
