The Blue and White Lanai

My Lanai

Here are a few shots of my lanai featuring my new dragon pool float and my new wicker chaises. I sat out on one of the chaises yesterday afternoon with the two pups and it was wonderful.

Do you see the zebra hide beach towel in the leather holster in the last photo? I had a strange memory when I put it out there. I posted on January 13, 2013 (more than seven years ago) about finding it at Neiman Marcus Last Call reduced from $240 to $40. Zebra hide was all the rage then and this was a fun take on it.

I commented that I loved it, but wasn't sure where I was going to use it since I didn't have a pool and am not a huge beach goer. A gratuitous comment that I deleted chastised me for buying something that was not utilitarian. Hey sweetheart, how much of Chinoiserie or interior design for that matter is about being utilitarian? At any rate Angie, now I have my very own swimming pool and will be drying myself with this very chic towel. How's that for utilitarian?

Help Me Choose

I decided I want a great pool float with Chinoiserie style and fell in love with several and truly need help. What do you think? Above is a gorgeous and massive flamingo in a really pretty rose gold by SunnyLIFE. It gets rave reviews.

Next up is this group of oversized float rings in lots of great patterns and colors. I have put together this group of four and I would order all four.  They have been widely featured online and in magazines and are very chic.

Last is this Ice Dragon Pool Float from Amazon. It is crazy cheap and gets rave reviews and is truly a Chinoiserie Chic choice.

Leave a comment and help me choose and I will post pictures of the winner in my pool. Thanks!!!

Chinese Dragon High/Low

For a while I have wanted a white Chinese dragon. The Jonathan Adler version above is kind of fun and mod, but not for $350.00. Not quite my style either. In general I find Jonathan Adler a bit too Miami Beach as opposed to Palm Beach for my own home.

I love the vintage Fitz & Floyd one below, but it's VERY hard to find, especially in mint condition, and always pricey. I think the detail is wonderful.

I just snagged him on Etsy for $50.00. :-)  :-)  :-)  :-)

I think he's going to enjoy living in my Chinoiserie home. I know just the spot for him.

Vintage will continue to be a very hot trend this year and especially vintage Chinoiserie. Stalk eBay, Etsy, thrift stores, and auctions - there are amazing finds out there.

The Chinoiserie Dressing Room

Jewelry Designer Stephanie Lake
I am an absolute sucker for a beautiful dressing room and this is absolutely killer. Can you find the Chinoiserie touches? They include a Chinese Chippendale mirror, a turquoise foo dog, a turquoise Chinese man figurine, a turquoise lacquer box, a blue and white Chinese porcelain vase used as a container, a Chinese wooden stand, and my favorite, a dragon above the window. Speaking of the window, check out the gorgeous silk taffeta window treatment all corseted up like a ball gown. I adore the dark walls and the pale blue leather slipper chair, vanity, and vanity chair. The modern rug in purple, orange, and white is a fabulous and unexpected touch. A touch of leopard, of course. Quite a Mary McDonald vibe here. Thanks so much for the head's up from Ellen of Color Calling that this is the vanity of jewelry designer Stephanie Lake featured in Decorati.

Dragons at The Pink Pagoda

These Chinese Year of the Dragon giclees at The Pink Pagoda continue to be among my favorites. One, a pair, or a trio would be so elegant in an entryway, powder room, breakfast room, bedroom, nursery, or child's room. The hot pink, cobalt blue, and tangerine are such great colors.

More Sunday Inspiration - Blue and White from The Pink Pagoda

This is gorgeous! The Pink Pagoda's tangerine and hot pink Chinese New Year dragon giclee has been joined by this cobalt blue version that I totally adore. It is available in 8" x 10" or 11" x 14." Both were inspired by Lilly Pulitzer's ultimately preppy Chinoiserie fabric Tail Lights. What better way to celebrate the Chinese Year of the Dragon than adding one or both of these to your home?
