A Fun Chinoiserie Mix

Coastal Living
Yesterday I posted on a beautiful red, white, and blue dining room by Christopher Maya. Here is another red, white, and blue space with a super fun vibe. It showcases one of my favorite Chinoiserie wallpapers, Osborne & Little's iconic Summer Palace.

Iconic pieces abound in this space. An orangey red is used on the classic barrel chairs, Moroccan pouf, and zig zag rug. Mid century modern pieces are in the mix including Bertoia chairs and a Saarinen tulip table. An iMac, of course.

Osborne & Little's Summer Palace
Not from this room, but look what Palmer Weiss has done with this Bertoia chair - a cushion with Greek key trim.

Th bottom line is that Chinoiserie works with everything!

A Chinoiserie Dining Room

Cottages & Gardens
A lovely mix in this dining room - a Jansen Chinoiserie pagoda chandelier and Osborne & Little's Chinoiserie Bird Cage wallpaper with pink silk taffeta curtains, a mirrored sideboard, antique Swedish chairs, and acrylic chairs. I love the additional touch of pink with the bottles of French sparkling lemonade on the table.

The Chinoiserie Laundry Room

My friend Dagny at Scandinavian Chic has put together the most stunning Chinoiserie laundry room. With its Osborne & Little Palais Chinois wallpaper, I am in love. Please click here to read the entire post and to see more photos. This has motivated me to finish my Chinoiserie laundry room project.

The laundry room that inspired my project and I believe Dagny's as well.

Chinoiserie Wallpaper

We love wallpaper here at Chinoiserie Chic. Melissa Warner of Massucco Warner Miller converted the second bedroom in her rental apartment into an office. The mirrored sliding doors made the room feel too much like a bedroom. So she turned the doors around and wallpapered them in this dramatic paper-Osborne & Little's Hothouse in Arizona. When she moves out of this apartment, she simply turns the doors around and strips off the wallpaper. This is a wonderful idea for a rental for a Chinoiserie focal point at very little time or expense. You can see the entire apartment in the May issue of House Beautiful.

Top Ten Chinoiserie Wallpapers #4

Osborne & Little's Summer Palace is a classic Chinoiserie wallpaper and one of my favorites. With its Art Deco underpinnings, it is a versatile paper that works well anywhere. Above we see it in interior designer Elizabeth Bauer's office. Pictured below are examples of it in a bedroom, bathrooms, a pool room, and even a fireplace.

The Chinoiserie Fireplace

As the temperatures drop and thoughts turn to the holidays and winter decorating, the fireplace and mantel become even more important focal points. Here are ideas for decorating your fireplace with Chinoiserie panache. The first gorgeous example above is by Carolyne Roehm.

1. A Chinoiserie style fireplace mantel
2. Blue and white Chinese porcelains-think vases, ginger jars, tulipieres
3. A Chinoiserie fireplace screen-can even be made from Chinoiserie wallpaper
4. A Chinoiserie fireback
5. Blanc de Chine
6. A Chinoiserie mirror
7. Chinoiserie wallpaper on that wall
8. Asian antiques
9. Pagodas
10. A Chinoiserie oil painting, framed silk fragment or panel, or framed Chinoiserie wallpaper
11. Flanked by one or a pair of Chinese screens
